Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws from patients in their homes.
- Prepare equipment and materials needed for blood collection.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
- Identify and assess appropriate veins for blood collection.
- Label and document samples accurately for laboratory analysis.
- Provide patients with clear instructions before and after the procedure.
- Monitor and manage patient comfort throughout the blood collection process.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the patients home.
- Communicate with patients to address any concerns and provide reassurance.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure timely testing.
- Transport blood samples to the laboratory following established guidelines.
- Complete all required documentation and reports related to home visits.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Attend training sessions to stay current with phlebotomy techniques.
- Assist with patient scheduling and coordination of home visits.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in phlebotomy preferred.
- Proven experience in phlebotomy or a related healthcare role.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
- Certification from a recognized phlebotomy program (e.g. NHA ASCP).
- Knowledge of blood collection techniques and equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in various home settings.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sample collection.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Ability to handle stressful situations with professionalism.
- Compassionate approach to patient care.
- Commitment to continuing education and skill development.
- Flexibility with scheduling to accommodate patient needs.
- Understanding of safety and health regulations.
