Head of Languages IB School (PYP MYP DP)
Overview:
The Head of Languages at our IB school plays a crucial role in leading the language department and ensuring the successful implementation of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). This position is vital in fostering a supportive and challenging learning environment while promoting multilingualism intercultural understanding and global engagement among students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead manage and inspire the Languages department ensuring the delivery of highquality language education
- Develop and review the language curriculum to align with the IB framework and school objectives
- Provide professional development opportunities for language teachers to enhance their IB teaching skills
- Collaborate with the IB Coordinator and other Heads of Department to ensure a cohesive approach to IB programs
- Monitor student progress and implement strategies to support students with diverse language learning needs
- Oversee the organization and administration of language assessments and examinations
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified language teaching staff
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students parents and relevant stakeholders regarding language programs and student progress
- Contribute to the overall leadership and strategic direction of the school as a member of the leadership team
- Stay updated on global educational trends and best practices related to language education
- Ensure compliance with IB standards and practices within the language department
- Coordinate extracurricular activities that promote language learning and cultural exchange
- Manage departmental resources and budget effectively
- Participate in continuous professional development to enhance leadership skills
Required Qualifications:
- Master s degree in Education Linguistics or related field
- IB Certification as a Workshop Leader or Examiner
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching IB languages and managing language programs
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting preferably in an IB school
- Proven track record of successful curriculum development and implementation within an IB framework
- Excellent proficiency in at least one IB language of instruction
- Strong knowledge of PYP MYP and DP language requirements and assessment practices
- Ability to lead and motivate a team of language educators towards collective goals
- Thorough understanding of intercultural communication and language acquisition theories
- Excellent communication interpersonal and organizational skills
- Experience in conducting language teacher training and professional development
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities while maintaining high standards of work
- Understanding of budgeting and resource allocation for a language department
- Dedication to promoting multilingualism and internationalmindedness in an educational setting
