Overview
The Purchase Engineer Electrical plays a vital role within the procurement team of an organization ensuring the efficient acquisition of electrical materials and components necessary for various projects. This position requires a blend of technical knowledge negotiation skills and an understanding of supply chain management. The Purchase Engineer collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to identify their needs while sourcing highquality products that meet strict specifications. They are responsible for conducting market research to identify potential suppliers negotiating favorable contract terms and managing supplier relationships. This role is essential in reducing costs improving product quality and ensuring timely delivery of materials ultimately contributing to the overall success and operational efficiency of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of electrical materials and components.
- Conduct negotiation for pricing terms and delivery schedules with prospective suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement standards.
- Analyze technical specifications and needs from engineering and production teams.
- Conduct market research to identify trends and new products in the electrical supply market.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders while ensuring accuracy in specifications.
- Monitor inventory levels and recommend restocking ahead of demand fluctuations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all procurement activities and supplier communications.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to enhance service quality.
- Work collaboratively with the project management team to fulfill project needs.
- Evaluate supplier performance and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
- Analyze cost structures and seek opportunities for cost reduction.
- Participate in crossfunctional teams to optimize procurement processes.
- Manage risks associated with supplier disruptions or price fluctuations.
- Stay updated on industry standards regulations and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Supply Chain Management or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement or purchasing within an electrical engineering context.
- Strong understanding of electrical components and systems.
- Proven track record in supplier negotiation and relationship management.
- Experience with procurement software and inventory management tools.
- Excellent analytical and decisionmaking skills.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Certification in supply chain management (e.g. APICS CPSM) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with contracts and legal agreements related to procurement.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint).
- Willingness to travel occasionally for supplier visits and market research.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices in procurement is desirable.
