Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and resultsdriven Legal Collection Executive to join our legal and collections team. This position is responsible for managing the recovery of outstanding debts from retail outlets and their related entities. The ideal candidate will have experience in debt collection legal compliance and a strong understanding of retail operations. The role demands a proactive assertive and customeroriented approach to managing legal recovery processes while ensuring adherence to all applicable laws and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Collection Management:
- Oversee the full lifecycle of legal collections for outstanding debts owed by retail outlets ensuring timely recovery.
- Manage legal correspondence including drafting demand letters notices and settlement offers.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel and collection agencies to pursue delinquent accounts through litigation or alternative legal avenues.
- Account Monitoring & Analysis:
- Monitor and track outstanding balances across retail outlets identifying highrisk accounts.
- Review and assess overdue accounts and make recommendations for further action.
- Analyze payment trends and provide reports on collection status to senior management.
- Legal Documentation & Filing:
- Prepare legal documents necessary for collection efforts including court filings claims and other relevant paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with all legal regulations regarding debt collection including consumer protection laws and retailspecific regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all legal actions taken and resolutions achieved.
- Negotiation & Settlement:
- Negotiate settlements and payment plans with retail outlets while adhering to company policies and legal requirements.
- Work with internal departments (e.g. finance sales operations) to resolve disputes or facilitate payment arrangements.
- Compliance & Risk Mitigation:
- Ensure that all collection practices comply with legal and regulatory standards including data protection and privacy laws.
- Stay updated on industry best practices legal trends and any changes to debt recovery laws that may impact retail collections.
- Recommend improvements to internal policies and procedures related to legal collection activities.
- Customer Relationship Management:
- Maintain a professional and constructive relationship with retail outlet contacts to facilitate amicable resolutions and maintain business partnerships.
- Handle escalated matters with diplomacy ensuring a balance between strong recovery efforts and preserving business relationships.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare regular reports on collection progress legal cases payment status and any potential writeoffs for senior management review.
- Keep detailed records of all communications negotiations and outcomes related to the recovery process.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Law Business Finance or a related field. A law degree (LLB or equivalent) is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3 5 years of experience in legal collections with a focus on retail debt recovery or similar sectors.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of debt collection laws and legal processes.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal documentation software.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Detailoriented with a strong sense of accountability and integrity.
- Knowledge of retail business operations and challenges in debt recovery.
