Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Department Leadership: Lead and manage the Business and Computing departments, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning. Set clear goals and expectations for staff and students, and monitor progress towards achieving these objectives.
  • Curriculum Design and Delivery: Oversee the development and delivery of an engaging, relevant, and rigorous curriculum for both business and computing. Ensure that the curriculum aligns with national and local standards and supports the diverse needs of all students.
  • Staff Development and Support: Lead the professional development of staff within the department, providing coaching, mentoring, and regular feedback. Create opportunities for teachers to develop their skills and knowledge in both business and computing.
  • Student Achievement and Assessment: Monitor student progress and attainment in business and computing. Implement strategies to raise student achievement, address learning gaps, and ensure that students are prepared for exams, qualifications, and further studies.
  • Innovation and Technology Integration: Ensure that the departments are at the forefront of integrating technology into teaching and learning, including the use of digital tools, software, and online resources. Promote the use of technology in business and computing education.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the allocation of resources within the departments, ensuring that teaching materials, equipment, and technology are up-to-date and available for staff and students. Manage the department budget effectively.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Oversee the assessment of student work, ensuring that it aligns with departmental and school policies. Provide regular updates and reports on student progress and departmental performance to school leadership and parents.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Develop and oversee extra-curricular activities related to business and computing, such as clubs, competitions, or industry partnerships, to enhance the student experience and promote engagement with the subjects.
  • Collaboration with External Partners: Build relationships with local businesses, organizations, and higher education institutions to enhance the relevance and application of the curriculum. Explore opportunities for work placements, internships, or guest speakers to enrich students' learning experiences.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide policies and initiatives that impact business, computing, and technology education.

Desired candidate profile

  • Leadership and Vision: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and manage staff. Ability to set a clear strategic direction for the Business and Computing departments and ensure the successful implementation of school-wide policies.
  • Curriculum Expertise: In-depth knowledge of business and computing education, with an understanding of current trends in business, IT, and technology. Knowledge of relevant qualifications and assessment methods, including GCSEs, A-Levels, BTECs, and vocational courses.
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for the departments, including setting objectives for academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and departmental growth.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Experience using data to monitor performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to raise student achievement in business and computing.
  • Staff Management: Experience managing a team of teachers, providing professional development, performance management, and support to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Financial Management: Competence in managing budgets for the Business and Computing departments, including the purchase of resources, equipment, and maintaining technology infrastructure.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Innovative and Creative Thinking: Ability to integrate new teaching methods, technologies, and business/computing trends into the curriculum, keeping it current and relevant.
  • Technological Proficiency: Strong IT skills, including proficiency with business and computing software, and the ability to manage and oversee the integration of technology in the classroom.
