Job Description

FOOD PROTECTION SPECIALIST

Location:
Public Health and Preventive Medicine Department
United States School of Aerospace Medicine
2510 Fifth Street
WrightPatterson Air Force Base Ohio
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required DoD Clearance Required
  • Clearance Requirements: Tier 3 Background Investigation National Agency Check with Law and Credit Check and fingerprints. (Standard Form 86).
  • Estimate Pay: $68000 $70000 per year (Negotiable)
  • Type of Employment: 40 hours per week.
  • Period of Performance: 27 January 2025 31 May 2027.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: 80 hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: 56 hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays
  • Travel: Travel is authorized

Working Hours:
Work will be scheduled normally from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However there may be times when the employees must work after duty hours or on weekends in support of specific tasks. Although the schedule may have to be flexible it will not exceed 40 hours per week. Temporary alternate work locations may be assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Be a technically qualified food protection specialist.
  • Five (5) years of experience in food protection and security operations.
  • Possess public speaking experience within the past 2 years including giving verbal presentations to laypersons and leadership audiences.
  • Possess demonstrated experience with taskings in section 1

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Currently possessing a Tier 3 Security Clearance

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform Food Vulnerability Assessments (FVAs) or Mission Assurance Assessments (MAAs) at sites worldwide.
  • Coordinate installation onsite schedules with Joint MAAs (Defense Threat Reduction
  • Agency) with the Air Force Vulnerability Assessment Team (AFVAT) or scheduling an FVA for the United States School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Public Health and Preventive Medicine Department(PHR) to conduct by itself.
  • Coordinate the schedule with installation Antiterrorism officers Medical Group leadership and Public Health personnel.
  • Coordinate scheduling with installationlevel food facilities or other functions involved in the FVA or MAA process.
  • Coordinate inbrief or outbrief schedule where applicable.
  • Arrange travel and travel support such as hotel or car rental and maintain budget and records.
  • Interview relevant parties and make observations relating to food defense at installations.
  • Train installationlevel personnel in food defense.
  • Apply operational risk management to assess risks maintaining awareness of missioncritical assets or tasks as part of the FVA or MAA process.
  • Generate final FVA reports and electronic and paper documentation perform summary presentations and update trend trackers with the results of FVAs or MAAs as soon as practical after FVA or MAA completion.
  • Provide information to the team lead or NonCommission Officer in Charge (NCOIC).
  • Support USAFSAM/PHR on investigations and data requests about food defense.
  • Follow USAFSAM/PHR Food Protection Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Educate USAFSAM students and others as requested regarding food defense.
  • Train other assessors as needed.
  • Support field unit requests for consultation and analysis of specific issues relating to food defense.
  • Maintain and apply proficiency in the classification of documents and management of documents up to the appropriate classifications.
  • Attend Department of Defense (DOD) or USAF working groups and meetings pertaining to food defense to provide subject matter expert (SME) consultation.
  • Support installationlevel completion of installationlevel local FVAs.
  • Review completed installationlevel local FVAs and provide feedback.
  • Communicate completed reviews to the team lead or NCOIC.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for installation support services (e.g. remote instruction by telephone guidance benchmarks processing and evaluations).
  • Collaborate regularly with other DOD components in reporting issues suggesting solutions and supporting best practices for food protection.
  • Assist USAFSAM/PHR during collaborative efforts to increase datasharing capabilities and surveillance partnerships with installationlevel customers and other principal stakeholders in the USAFSAM/PHR surveillance systems.
  • Provide regular information sources and worksheets when requested by installationlevel personnel USAFSAM/PHR the Major Commands (MAJCOM) and the Air Force Medical Readiness Agency (AFMRA).
  • Complete Training as required by the Air Force Air Force Research Laboratory 711th Human Performance Wing (711th HPW) and USAFSAM.
  • Inform and coordinate with USAFSAM/PHR leadership for leave or comp time plans.
  • Act as alternate SIPRNet room custodian in PHR.
  • Complete custodian tasks as outlined in the 711th HPW Security Program Operating Instruction 1601.
