Preparation and Production of Baked Goods
- Assist in Preparing Ingredients: Help in weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients for dough, batters, and other baked goods under the guidance of senior staff.
- Bake Goods: Assist in baking bread, pastries, cakes, cookies, and other bakery items according to recipes, ensuring consistency in quality and presentation.
- Assist with Pastry Decoration: Help in decorating cakes and pastries, such as applying glazes, icing, or toppings, following specific designs or instructions.
- Prepare Dough and Batters: Assist in preparing various types of dough and batters, such as bread dough, puff pastry, and cake batter, ensuring proper texture and consistency.

Baking and Cooking Techniques
- Learn Basic Baking Techniques: Under the guidance of senior chefs, develop skills in bread-making, cake baking, pastry preparation, and other specialized techniques.
- Operate Bakery Equipment: Assist in using ovens, mixers, dough sheeters, and other bakery equipment to prepare products while following proper safety and operating procedures.
- Monitor Baking Process: Ensure baked goods are properly cooked, observing cooking times, temperatures, and quality to meet the required standards.

Maintaining Bakery Standards
- Ensure Consistency: Follow recipes and instructions precisely to ensure that products are consistently high-quality and meet the establishment's standards.
- Presentation: Assist in ensuring baked goods are presented and displayed attractively, following the bakery’s aesthetic standards.
- Taste and Texture: Help ensure all baked goods have the right texture, flavor, and consistency as per the recipes and quality control standards.

Cleaning and Hygiene
- Clean the Bakery Section: Maintain cleanliness in the bakery area by cleaning work surfaces, tools, equipment, and utensils. Follow proper sanitation and safety protocols.
- Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations: Comply with food safety regulations regarding storage, preparation, and hygiene practices to prevent contamination.
- Organize Ingredients and Equipment: Ensure ingredients are stored correctly, with proper labeling and rotation to prevent spoilage. Clean and organize baking equipment at the end of each shift.

Supporting Senior Staff
- Assist Other Bakery Staff: Support senior bakery staff, such as the Pastry Chef or Chef de Partie, in tasks that need extra assistance during busy periods.
- Follow Instructions: Take direction from senior chefs and contribute to team tasks, including preparing ingredients, baking, and maintaining the bakery’s cleanliness and organization.

Inventory and Stock Management
- Help Track Inventory: Assist in keeping track of the ingredients used in the bakery section and help ensure that stocks are replenished in a timely manner.
- Organize Supplies: Ensure that the bakery supplies are organized and stored properly, including dry goods, perishable items, and tools.
Desired candidate profile
Proven experience in a Commis Chef role with excellent use of various baking methods, ingredients, equipment and hygiene standards
Ability to multitask with good time management and work efficiently under pressure
Knowledge of best cooking practices
Culinary school diploma or qualification from a culinary school
At least 1 - 2 years of experience cooking in a well-established restaurant or full-service hotel
Basic Baking Knowledge: Understanding of basic baking methods, ingredients, and equipment.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail when measuring ingredients, following recipes, and ensuring the finished products meet the required standards.
Team Player: Ability to work well with others, taking direction from senior chefs and collaborating with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
Time Management: Ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment.
