Job Description

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in Dr. Jose Berrocals research group. This position will be funded by ERC Starting Grant.

ICIQ is one of the worlds internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: Sustainable Catalysis Renewable Energy and Health. The institute also aims at training the future generation of scientists by offering highquality educational programs to master PhD students and postdoctoral researchers (full details on ).

ICIQ is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the group of Dr. Jose Berrocal. The successful candidate will work on synthesis and mechanical characterization of photo and mechanoresponsive polymer materials.


Responsibilities

  • Thermal and mechanical characterization of polymer materials with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) rheology tensile testing differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermal gravimetric anaylsis (TGA)
  • Assist the supervisor in the daily supervision of the PhD students
  • Synthesis of small molecules and polymers to be used for sensing applications
  • Study the photo and mechanoresponsive behavior of polymers with setups combining microtensile testing and optical probes measuring transmittance spectra
  • Production of written reports and presentations to update the group/supervisor


Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry or Materials science
  • Level of English equal to B2 or higher
  • Prior experience with rheology
  • Ability to work independently and in teams

  • Willigness to undergo a robust training in soft skills and mentoring
  • Active participation in discussion meetings and brainstorming sessions
  • Willigness to coach/collaborate with PhD students
  • Willigness to contribute in project writing


We offer:

  • A 3year fulltime position.
  • Remuneration according to individuals qualifications/experience
  • Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments
  • Incorporation: February 2025.

Selection Process

ICIQs selection process usually entails the following phases:

  • Preselection: The preselection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected on the candidates CVs. This phase is meritbased.
  • Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
  • Offer Letter:Once the successful candidate is selected the People Unit will extend a Job Offer specifying the start day salary and overall job conditions.
