Job Description

Summary:
The Operations & Maintenance Technician is responsible on a daytoday basis for carrying out maintenance activities and operating the treatment processes associated with the WTP (Water Treatment Plant) on a client site in Rickmansworth. As well as daily operational routines working with the onsite Operators the technician will be expected to carry out preventative and corrective maintenance activities as part of their role working to a maintenance schedule on a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).

The role is Monday Friday 40 hrs per week and 1 week in 3 out of hours oncall.

The key objectives of the role are;

Operate the water treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure that water quality and quantity produced is within the specifications required by the customer.

Carry out maintenance and ensure timely completion of all PM and CM activities through the CMMS safely responding to breakdowns in a timely manner.

Carry out duties in a safe manner to ensure that there is a minimum risk of harm to people or the environment.

Communicate with other members of the NSI and Customer teams to ensure that there is a good level of understanding regarding plant performance activities to be carried out and any impacts on site wide operations.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work within the client and NSI HSE systems.
    • Visible ownership on HSE issues at all levels both in the client organisation and within NSI.
    • Work closely with the NSI UK wide maintenance team(s).
    • Issue permits to work for other NSI maintenance and subcontractor engineers (training provided).
    • Ensure effective recording of activities and breakdowns through the CMMS.
    • Develop risk assessments and safe systems of work for all tasks for approval.
    • Promptly raise any issues which could affect both the client and NSI.
    • Establish and maintain professional relationships with customer personnel NSI employees and subcontractor staff.
    • Carry out isolations and deisolations etc. as required to allow others to carry out work on the assets.
    • Proactively manage external relationships with the client and subcontractors.
    • Innovate in the workplace to bring improvement and opportunity.
    • Identity faults evaluate rectification measures and to make initial recommendations.
    • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on electromechanical systems and instrumentation.
    • Gather all systems information and complete plant logs to understand the function and operation of the WWTP on site.
    • Development and maintenance of good housekeeping practices.
    • To work unsupervised with a proactive attitude.
    • Develop good team working behaviours with the client and other NSI staff.
    • Undergo training as required and identify training needs.
    • Receive deliveries and maintain site stock.
    • Safe delivery of bulk chemicals to storage tanks.
    • Raise work orders for plant maintenance.
    • On occasion cover Operations Technicians in carry out daily wet chemistry analysis routine operational rounds and reporting.
    • Share knowledge / experience with colleagues and others.
    • Effectively communicate with other third party contractors.

    Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):

    • Extensive experience of carrying out mechanical maintenance
    • Training in Health & Safety
    • Committed team player
    • Attention to detail with a positive attitude to work
    • Computer literacy
    • A strong commitment to upholding safe working practices
    • NVQ / City & Guilds or other qualification in Mechanical Engineering and/or significant relevant experience

    Required Skills/Qualifications (Desirable):

    • NVQ / City & Guilds or other qualification in Electrical Engineering and/or significant relevant experience
    • Knowledge of Water Treatment Plants UF RO Ion Exchange process or any other production/process related plants Operations
    • To be able to demonstrate through previous work experience the capacity to interpret technical information from drawing P&IDs data sheets etc
    • Demonstrate the ability to work within a quality system
    • NVQ in relevant discipline
    • Ability and knowledge to complete basic repairs and maintenance on (electro)mechanical assets

    Working for us means:

    The salary is between 34000 & 42000 per year depending on your professional experience

    London Weighting Monthly Allowance 15% of basic salary with a minimum payment of 4313 and a maximum payment of 5436

    Hours of Work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.

    Standby Requirements expected to work 1 in 3 which will require weekend working when the rostered standby person. Rate is 25.00 per day

    Bonus up to 5%

    Overtime 1.5

    Holidays 22 days 8 statutory

    Probationary Period 6 months

    Pension Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months Employee 4.5% and Employer 4.5% via salary sacrifice

    Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.

    Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 x basic salary) upon commencement of employment.

    Notice 1 week during probation increasing to 1 month thereafter.
