Plant supervisors commonly have backgrounds in engineering industrial management or other related fields.
Plant supervisors may also be responsible for hiring and managing their own staff. This includes assigning specific tasks to individual employees providing them with training as needed and ensuring that they are performing their jobs safely and effectively.
Plant Supervisor Job Duties
A plant supervisor typically has a wide range of responsibilities which can include:
- Coordinating with other supervisors to ensure that projects are completed on time
- Ensuring that all safety regulations are followed by workers at all times
- Maintaining records on workers’ hours wages and other employment data
- Overseeing the development of new technology to improve efficiency or safety in the workplace
- Reviewing production reports and other data to identify potential problems
- Training new employees on proper safety procedures and encouraging them to follow these guidelines at all times
- Providing guidance to workers on how to perform their jobs safely and efficiently
- Ensuring that all machinery is properly maintained to avoid accidents
- Scheduling workers’ shifts and ensuring that they are able to complete their tasks within these time constraints
