Job Description: Distressed Debt Analyst
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly analytical and detailoriented Distressed Debt Analyst to join our investment team. This role provides an opportunity to work on evaluating structuring and managing investments in distressed debt across a wide range of industries. The ideal candidate will have strong financial modeling skills a deep understanding of credit markets and an interest in turnaround strategies and special situations investing.
Key Responsibilities: Investment Research and Analysis:
- Conduct indepth analysis of distressed debt opportunities including analyzing financial statements debt structures and recovery scenarios.
- Build detailed financial models to assess cash flow liquidation values and restructuring outcomes.
- Evaluate company operations market trends and industry dynamics to identify potential investment risks and opportunities.
- Prepare detailed investment memoranda and present recommendations to internal investment committees.
Due Diligence and Transaction Execution:
- Participate in due diligence processes including financial operational and legal reviews.
- Assess potential recovery strategies including restructuring liquidation or turnaround plans.
- Support the structuring and negotiation of transaction terms and agreements.
- Collaborate with legal and financial advisors to facilitate the execution of distressed debt transactions.
Portfolio Management:
- Monitor the performance of distressed investments including financial performance compliance with restructuring terms and operational progress.
- Collaborate with portfolio company management teams to support turnaround efforts and drive value creation.
- Prepare regular portfolio updates highlighting risks performance metrics and strategic recommendations.
Market Research and Strategic Development:
- Stay informed on trends in distressed debt bankruptcy laws and special situations investing.
- Conduct research to identify new opportunities in distressed credit markets.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of investment strategies focused on distressed debt.
Qualifications: Educational Background:
- Bachelors degree in Finance Economics Accounting Business Administration or a related field (required).
- Advanced degree (MBA or Masters in Finance) or CFA designation is preferred but not required.
Professional Experience:
- 2 4 years of experience in investment banking private credit distressed debt investing or related fields.
- Familiarity with credit analysis restructuring and bankruptcy processes is strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills with proficiency in Excel.
- Strong understanding of credit markets distressed debt strategies and restructuring principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas effectively.
- Detailoriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency in financial databases and tools such as Bloomberg S&P Capital IQ or similar platforms.
