Position Details:

  • Title: Special education teacher
  • Location: Portola Valley CA
  • Duration: Current to June 11
  • Onsite/Virtual: Onsite
  • Position Type: Contract
  • Working Hours: 35 37 hours weekly from Monday to Friday
  • Student Age Group: Grades 4/5
  • Case Load: 11 12 students

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct academic instruction and inclusion services for students with a range of needs including students with Autism or Intellectual Disability.
  • Assist in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process as needed.
  • Serve as IEP case manager for assigned students.
  • Provide consultation services to classroom teachers for educational support to students in general education classes who require modifications.
  • Support classroom teachers in creating safe and optimal learning environments for individual student needs.
  • Act as a parent liaison providing parents with resources that support their childrens learning needs.
  • Provide training to teachers and paraeducators to increase awareness and understanding of students with disabilities.
  • Contribute to the MTSS team by coordinating assessments interventions and collaboration with teachers.
  • Provide prereferral academic instruction for students through the MTSS and RtI2 decisionmaking process.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of best practices for inclusion and coteaching related to including children with various disabilities into general education classrooms.
  • Knowledge in assessment programming and service provision for students with recognized disabilities in general education settings.
  • Understanding of theories of child development in psychomotor social cognitive communication vocational and selfhelp areas.
  • Skills in techniques curriculum and instruments for providing direct specialized instruction and inclusion services.
  • Knowledge of adaptive/assistive technology and materials.
  • Familiarity with formal and informal assessment techniques to evaluate student progress.
  • Skill in using data to monitor progress and guide learning goals and instruction.
  • Knowledge of behavior management and social skills training techniques for supporting students and parents.
  • Experience with special education database systems (e.g. SEIS).
  • Skills in formulating and implementing behavior plans to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Ability to prepare a compliant Individual Education Plan (IEP) that results in educational benefits for students.
  • Strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Completion of the Livescan clearance process prior to the first day of school.
  • Valid CA Teaching Credentials.
