Job Description

Job Title: Engineering Support Technician I

Work Location: Omaha NE

Job Type: C2C/Fulltime

Job Details:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position performs geographic information systems (GIS) work maintaining the Countys storm drain and storm water infrastructure maintaining ESRI geodatabases related to storm water management assets and preparing maps and displays related to storm water management projects and programs. Position utilizes ESRIs ArcGIS software. Work is performed with general supervision from a technical superior.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Performs intermediate technical level engineering support work under the general supervision from a technical superior. Work may include survey field work and operating survey instruments preparing graphic materials and drafting plans schematics and maps by hand or by using CAD/GIS equipment in associated engineering and planning projects. Work involves relieving engineers of routine office and field technical duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Uses ESRIs ArcGIS software applications to create edit convert migrate and manage spatial data. Specific use of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop 10.x ArcGIS Pro and ESRI Desktop extensions such as 3D and Spatial Analyst.

Performs spatial analyses/data modeling to aid in decisionmaking for engineering water quality restoration and other disciplines.

Designs and produces hardcopy maps and other cartographic presentation products.

Performs GIS digitizing of storm water related information from subdivision development and capital project design drawings.

Provides research assistance for locating and compiling design information related to existing storm water facilities or other information as needed to respond to citizen complaints/concerns.

Assists is compilation of project related data bid results sampling results affected property owners etc.

Maintains various record keeping documents including logs computerized databases and sampling records.

Assists in maintenance of storm water management facility database including recording results of inspections researching ownership and recording other descriptive information for facilities.

Prepares sketches charts graphs and other material for inclusion in project reports exhibits and displays.

Performs basic mathematical calculations related to research and GIS work.

Locates and compiles documents and data for Division projects and programs.

Maintains an uptodate knowledge of technical developments related to GIS particularly ArcGIS.

Field work could include accompanying engineers to gather data; investigating citizen inquiries; making deliveries; minor surveying; posting public notice signs and other work as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience in related work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of ESRIs ArcGIS software to create edit convert migrate and manage spatial data. Specific knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop 10.x and ArcGIS Pro. Previous experience with ESRI Desktop extensions such as 3D and Spatial Analyst.

Knowledge of Computers and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software such as Microstation V8 and Geopak.

Knowledge of office software such as word processing spread sheets and graphic software (Microsoft Office).

Ability to interpret site plans maps and other detailed construction drawings.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of mathematics including elementary concepts of trigonometry.

Ability to learn engineering office methods practices and nomenclature.

Ability to learn modern practices materials and codes pertaining to public construction work.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to follow established procedures.

Ability to process forms permits and other documents.

Ability to work on cooperative courteous and effective basis with other employees and the public.

Ability to understand surveyors plats and research deeds.

This position is primarily office oriented. A minor amount of the work will be conducted at other indoor locations or outside.

Climate of the office is usually a controlled condition with respect to temperature and humidity. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate.

The outside work is subject to outdoor weather conditions and field conditions. This may include wet and/or humid conditions cold heat and a moderate to loud noise level. The employee may be working along roads in offroad conditions or rough terrain.

LANGUAGE SKILLS MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as basic algebra geometry probability and statistical inference and trigonometry.

LANGUAGE SKILLS & REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to define and solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral audio/video diagram or schedule form. Ability to collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Class C Maryland Drivers License or equivalent issued by state of residence.
