Working Student - Semiconductor characterization laboratory operations

We are a young and dynamic startup founded in 2020 by experts who have developed a gamechanging photonic technology in the laboratories of IBM Research in Zurich.

We have developed a unique technology to bring a material with an extremely strong Pockels coefficient into a scalable silicon photonics platform. Having this physical effect available in integrated photonic circuits has been a scientific and technological breakthrough which enables the realization of advanced photonic structures and completely new applications e.g. for photonic AI networks and quantum computing.

At Lumiphase we are bringing this new technology to market while at the same time developing new scientific and technological concepts. This working student position is placed at the heart of our R&D activities and will ensure that our groundbreaking semiconductor chips can be tested to their full performance potential with appropriate electrical optical and mechanical integration solutions.

Tasks

Details about the role

This position is for a student seeking a 4060% (23 days/week) pensum role to gain handson lab experience in an exciting and fastgrowing industrial startup.

The main tasks of this role are to support our R&D team with operating a custombuilt prober for eletrooptical characterization of photonic chips and contributing in a range of handson activities including PCB design electrical and optical asssembly of silicon chips soldering installation of hardware components and samples into test chambers running calibration routines and performing measurements.

You will closely collaborate with R&D engineers gaining insights into electrical and optical testing hardware test methods and practical lab skills related to semiconductor components.

This position is well suited for students pursuing an engineering natural science or computer science degree at a university or a university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule). It may also be fitted as an industrial internship for an engineering student of Bachelor/Master program. Start and duration of the position can be aligned with your availability and/or your universitys regulations with a preference for a minimum of 6 months.

Requirements

We are seeking a motivated candidate with an interest in electrical engineering and/or photonic test systems. Desired qualifications:

• Strong interest in handson work with delicate semiconductor components and electrical and optical measurement equipment
• Python knowledge (e.g. data analysis and plotting adjusting existing code instruments control)
• Experience with the following is an advantage: Git PCB design software CAD software electrical engineering basics
• Independent and exact working style
• Ability to commit to regular weekly schedule
• Desire to contribute within a dynamic deeptech startup
