PROJECT ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY:
This role involves planning project requirements estimating costs establishing budgets and developing work plans while coordinating the efforts of engineering staff and CAD drafters. The engineer must solve technical issues independently participate in project reviews and maintain quality assurance for design drawings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizes and executes a broad range of project assignments requiring an extensive knowledge of civil engineering practices. Requires the use of current techniques and the application of theories precepts and practices of civil engineering.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Plans develops and carries out the technical requirements of a large and important development project of a number of small projects with many complex features.
- Provides input for proposals to estimate the cost and establish a budget for the technical requirements on the project.
- Prepares project work plan sets the schedule establishes the budget organizes the execution of the project and schedules job review progress.
- Works independently to solve technical problems within the initial scope of the work. May request change in scope if unanticipated problems develop as work progressed.
- Participates in a job completion review to critique both the positive and negative aspects of the project.
- Coordinates and reviews the work of staff of engineers and CAD drafters.
- Experienced in the operation of AutoCAD and / or Microstation CAD programs as well as LDT and / or Inroads design programs.
- Provides quality assurance plan review for completeness of drawings.
- Keeps abreast of new methods and developments affecting the civil engineering field.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Current Registration as a Civil Engineer in California preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 years with PE License or 10 years of civil engineering design experience. Must have full range of knowledge of engineering plans for site development.
- Areas of knowledge include: Hydrology Storm Drainage GradingRough and Fine Erosion Control Streets Sanitary Sewer Water Cost / Quantity Estimates Local Governmental Agency Standards Striping / Signing Utilities Surveying Specifications Field Construction Observations Structural Construction Phase
- Computer Skills: CADD (AutoCAD Microstation LDT Inroads) Hydrology / Hydraulics programs (HEC 1 HEC 2 WSPG MORA) Windows Spreadsheet and database software
- Required skills: Additional skills needed for this position are those of supervision communication and good organizational skills. A project engineer should have previous experience in supervising and direction other staff members in the execution of projects. Should have experience in dealing with clients contractors and governmental agencies as well as in being responsible for developing and monitoring budgets during the execution of a project.
