Job Description:
Our client is a leading multinational mining company who are seeking a VP and Head of Learning & Development to join their team based in Johannesburg.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a longterm learning and development strategy in alignment with organisational objectives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to assess current and future workforce development needs.
- Lead the development of technical training programs that support the businesses’ strategic priorities and foster a highperformance culture.
- Oversee the design and delivery of highquality learning solutions including workshops digital learning and onthejob training.
- Ensure learning programs are aligned with industry best practices and the latest trends in adult learning.
- Establish career development pathways and continuous learning opportunities for employees.
- Foster a culture of learning encouraging personal and professional growth.
- Measure the impact of learning initiatives on employee engagement productivity and retention.
- Lead the selection implementation and optimisation of learning management systems (LMS) and other digital tools for training delivery.
- Stay updated on innovative learning technologies and methods (e.g. virtual learning AIbased learning platforms and integrate them into the organisation’s learning ecosystem. (in line with company policy)
- Develop and manage the budget for the learning and development department ensuring efficient allocation of resources for maximum impact.
- Track and report on the return on investment (ROI) for training and development programs.
- Incorporate DEIB principles into all learning and development strategies
- Promote a diverse and inclusive learning environment that supports equitable access to development opportunities.
- Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of training programs and their impact on business outcomes.
- Regularly report to the executive team on learning initiatives development progress and program impact.
- Compile approve and ensure compliance to the Human Resource L&S and Talent Management policies;
- Develop the Learning and Development framework in line with the delivery of the business objectives in ensuring business continuity strategic key resource development contributing to a high performance culture;
- Ensure compliance to the regulatory and legislative framework that governs the learning and development discipline;
- Develop maintain and manage the financial aspects regarding the L&D discipline in line with budget and skill grants objectives;
- In collaboration with Business Improvement identify and implement projects striving to improve current processes practices and cost savings;
- Contribute to the development of the HR Strategy in line with the national imperatives and regulatory frameworks; Ensure understanding in the discipline of the HR strategy in the delivery of the team’s objectives;
- Formulate a L&D skills competency and learning framework to align to the overall business and HR strategy government and SETA vision as well as best practices;
- Research design and implement L&D to manage the entire L&D value chain effectively in the delivery of the L&D strategy;
- Develop an annual skills development plan in line with business objectives to maximise grants; Ensure adherence to HR policies procedures and practices as well as regulatory requirements with regards to skills development; Assess Human Resource risks implement mitigating processes and practices as well as comply to any corporate governance audit and ethical guidelines;
- Promote a learning culture in the organisation by developing a learning and development framework; Identify procure and implement suitable and effective learning technology through market studies research best practice and communication with external vendors;
- Support advise and manage the Human Resource L&D teams in their implementation of programs and systems as well as ensuring that budgetary constraints and guidelines are adhered to; Enable consistent improvement in training deliverables to enable achievement of strategic targets and the development of employees; Implement cost effective HR L&D businessfocused solutions;
- Advocate skills development strategies such as Learnerships and Skills Programmes in the organisation in line with community development and government educational programmes;
- Provide support and guidance to Operational Human Capital and Line Management;
- Approve education training compliance functional training and development providers;
- Lead and drive the development of the L&D system to meet business requirements and ensure integration with ICT business systems in collaboration with HRMIS;
- Lead the development of the L&D Social and Labour Plan in line with business and the Mining Charter requirements;
- Signoff on internal and external regulatory reporting in collaboration with Governance models;Consolidate Human Resource Development information for the Company Annual Report;
- Manage the delivery of the high performance culture by the design cascading of business objectives and implementation of annual BSC in line with business objectives;
- Ensure the cascading of performance objectives for all management levels in Company;
- Build a comprehensive workforce plan for learning pipelines
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- NQF 7 (Bachelor’s Degree) in relevant field
- NQF 8 (Post graduate Diploma / Honours Degree / Professional Qualification Degree in relevant field) would be advantageous
- At least 10 years’ experience in a related role of which 5 years should have been at a senior corporate level.
- Experience in a mining/extractive industry with knowledge of the principal issues affecting the sector.
- Strong experience with L&D strategies and implementation
- Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
- Clear security screening record
