Job Description
Springfield Hospital has an excellent opportunity for a Board Eligible/Board Certified General Surgeon to utilize their skills in an environment that values quality care employee engagement and job satisfaction. Springfield is a small rural fullservice town on the Connecticut River in eastcentral Vermont only 3 hours drive from Boston!
Job Description:
- Our mission is to be a place where patients want to receive care and employees want to work.
- This is a small rural hospital where the General Surgeon will be primarily on solo coverage. Searching for an experienced (at least 1 year of General Surgery work experience is required at least 5 years of General Surgery work experience is preferred).
- Facility does not have a robot on site
- Busy ER: 18000 visits/year
- Trauma is rare. No multitrauma will come to Springfield. General Surgeon can expect mostly bread and butter cases gall bladder hernia a lot of upper and lower GI Endoscopy (about 100 per month) as there is no GI onsite.
- Sees ages 16. No peds as there is no pediatrician onsite.
- Emergency Department is run by an MD.
- 4 day work week MTh; if they re working the weekend call then off Thursday and work Fri Sat Sun. 10 days of call/month. If they take more call than that (approximately 5 extra days available per month) they are reimbursed extra for it. Call is manageable and will fluctuate.

Tuesdays GIEndo
Wednesdays OR or GIEndo
Thursdays Clinic - Support staff: Medical Assistant in clinic RN in OR and GIEndo no APP support
- Takes about 90 days to get a VT license for an MD; less time for DO will consider either but prefers a quick start
- Credentialing takes about 30 days can get started without a license
- 1hour response time to hospital when on call and 15mins response to a page is required. Must already live in or relocate within this radius.
- Not accepting visa candidates
- Not accepting brand new graduates must have a minimum of 1 year General Surgery employment experience (not including training)
- Not accepting candidates who have lapsed BC and need to obtain again
- Base salary BR00k based on training and experience

- Sign on bonus negotiable (amount to be discussed at interview)
- Relocation reimbursement if applicable approximately BR020K depending on the distance of the move
- Oncall days worked over required 10/month compensated at BR500/day

- TRULY Board Eligible (within 5 years) or Board Certified in General Surgery REQUIRED
- VT license (or willing to obtain) REQUIRED
- DEA (or willing to obtain) REQUIRED
- ATLS (or willing to obtain) REQUIRED
- 1 year of employment experience as General Surgeon REQUIRED
- 5 years of employment experience as General Surgeon PREFERRED
- 1hour response time to hospital when on call 15 mins response to a page. Note if provider already lives in or will relocate within this radius (add to Additional Submission Details field) REQUIRED
- Clean malpractice PREFERRED
- Does the provider require visa support J1 or H1B (note in Additional Submission Details field) REQUIRED

Weekend Requirements : If working the weekend call provider gets Thursday off and work Fri Sat Sun.
On Call Requirements : Manageable and will fluctuate. 10 days per month. If take more than 10 get additional compensation.
