Summary of Responsibilities:
The Parent Engagement Advocate plays a key role with parents/caregivers/providers in working to achieve key competency goals established by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services; goals that support positive outcome oriented relationships; trust and increased engagement between families providers and the community.
Qualifications/Education and Experience:
- Associates Degree required (60 Credit Hours of college courses) in Human Services Social Services or related field; requires a minimum of one (1) yr. of direct experience working with families/caregivers preferably in a notfor profit setting. Experience preferred includes child/family development case management or in a related human services capacity.
- Must be attentive to details; good organizational skills and have good administrative analytical negotiations and problem solving skills.
- Requires demonstrated experience and knowledge of parent engagement strategies designed to foster increased parental/caregiver involvement selfsufficiency and awareness including; methods used to build positive goaloriented relationships promote equity inclusiveness and cultural responsiveness between children parents/caregivers and service providers as partners.
- Experience planning coordinating and facilitating informational sessions presentations meetings support groups and related special events to encourage and support parent engagement/interest.
- Experience coordinating educational and training opportunities is strongly preferred; should be able to identify collect and disseminate relevant announcements literature informational materials and related resources beneficial to consumers/staff.
- Work experience and knowledge of related advocacy public policy legislative disparities and equity issues affecting families is a plus.
- Familiarity with Head Start/ECS Program Performance Standards which outlines specific actions/framework for programs that provide leadership and advocacy opportunities for parents is a plus.
- Requires experience and a knowledge of relationship building must be able to develop effective working relationships at all levels within the organization with consumers and the community; must have ability to maintain effective partnerships with human service support organizations and other sectors of the community both public and private that are beneficial to consumers; knowledge of the Greater Rochester area helpful; experience
- Working in collaborative/team structures is a plus.
- Must be proficient in use of all Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
- Requires the health and physical capability to work in an office classroom residential and/or community settings. Must be able to lift children weighing up to 40 lbs.
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation.
All employees of ABCHead Start/ECS Division must receive and maintain full clearance from the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) the NYS Central Registry (SCR) and the Justice Center of New York that allows them unsupervised contact with children. Any prospective or current employee who has an indication of child abuse maltreatment or neglect or who cannot be left unsupervised with children will not be hired or retained.
