Job Description

Looking for a new role in January An Outstanding Primary school is looking for a Year 6 Teacher for their deaf provision.

Role: Year 6 Teacher for the deaf provision

Training provided as a Teacher of the deaf

Fulltime

Start Date: January 2025

Salary: Dependent on experience plus SEN Allowance

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): In the UK SEN teachers need to have QTS which is obtained after completing an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a Bachelor of Education (BEd).
  • Degree: A degree is essential usually in education or a related subject. Some teachers may have a degree in a specific subject followed by a PGCE.
  • Special Educational Needs Qualification (desirable): Some teachers may have additional qualifications specific to SEN such as a National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) which is mandatory for SEN Coordinators (SENCOs) but useful for SEN teachers as well.

  • Experience:

    • Teaching Experience: Year 6 SEN teachers typically need previous experience in teaching at the primary school level. Some schools may expect experience specifically in Key Stage 2 (KS2).
    • Experience with SEN Students: Direct experience working with children with special needs either through placements teaching or volunteering is often required. Experience with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) is particularly valuable.
