Tool And Die Maker

Location: Chicago IL

Shifts available: 1st shift with OT

Salary: 40USD/hr.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Analyze blueprints sketches and specifications to plan machining operations.
• Set up and operate machine tools (lathe milling machine grinder) to fabricate or repair parts.
• Measure and mark metal stock for machining and verify conformance to specifications.
• Assemble and fit parts using hand tools and precision instruments.
• Modify and create tools based on requirements using drafting tools for custom designs.
• Inspect and troubleshoot tool machine or material issues.
• Set up tooling for a variety of production equipment and lines.
• Maintain an organized and clean workspace while adhering to safety rules and procedures.
• Communicate and collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to resolve issues and follow instructions.

Competency Requirements:

1. Able to read write and follow instructions in English.
2. Skilled in using tools and gauges to measure parts accurately.
3. Basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
4. Can read blueprints and understand tolerances.
5. Knowledge of statistical control for key dimensions.
6. Strong problemsolving and troubleshooting skills.
7. Capable of working independently.
8. Able to follow both written and spoken instructions.
9. Requires focus repetition and regular checks of processes and products.

Educational Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. At least 5 years of experience with manual tool room equipment (CNC programming skills and experience with specific machines preferred but not required).
3. Inhouse training on assigned machines and equipment.

Physical Requirements:

1. Use of hands all day.
2. Stand and walk all day.
3. Bend stoop and twist half the day.
4. Occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
5. Work in a noisy dusty shop with machinery oils and solvents.
