Overview
The Operation Theatre (OT) Assistant plays a crucial role in the efficient functioning of the eye hospital s surgical facility. They are vital in ensuring proper preparation of the operation theatre assisting ophthalmic surgeons and maintaining a sterile environment for surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operation theatre for surgical procedures including ensuring all necessary instruments and equipment are sterile and readily available.
- Assist ophthalmic surgeons during surgical procedures by passing instruments and other sterile supplies.
- Ensure that all medical instruments and equipment are maintained sterilized and in proper working condition.
- Adhere to infection control protocols to maintain a sterile environment in the operation theatre.
- Assist in patient positioning and ensure their comfort and safety during surgical procedures.
- Manage emergency situations effectively and efficiently within the operation theatre.
- Coordinate with the surgical and nursing teams to ensure smooth workflow during procedures.
- Keep accurate records of surgical procedures and assist in postoperative cleanup and sterilization.
- Handle and dispose of biohazardous materials in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Participate in the maintenance and inventory management of OT supplies and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Surgical (Operating) Room Technician or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior experience working in an operation theatre or surgical setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of sterilization techniques and infection control protocols.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of medical instruments and equipment used in surgical procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in highpressure and emergency situations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Good physical stamina and dexterity to assist in patient positioning and lifting.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and documentation.
