Job Description

Job Title: CNC Applications Engineer

Location: Indianapolis IN

Travel Requirement: 75%

Job Overview: The Applications Engineer I provides technical support for CNC machines including time studies test cuts and machine demonstrations. The role involves working directly with customers sales teams and trade show participants. This position requires proficiency in CNC programming part processing and machine setup under the supervision of senior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform application engineering tasks under direct supervision.
  • Participate in training programs provided by senior staff and external resources.
  • Prepare fixtures and workholding setups for demonstrations test cuts and turnkey projects.
  • Conduct time estimates for customer parts processing.
  • Calculate optimal speeds and feeds for part machining.
  • Use CAPPS conversational programming CAM systems and GCode/Macro programming to generate CNC programs.
  • Set up CNC machines with appropriate programs tooling workpieces and fixtures.
  • Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality.
  • Generate engineering reports and maintain technical documentation.
  • Communicate frequently with internal staff customers and suppliers.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field) preferred; machining knowledge is beneficial.
  • 02 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of part processing metal cutting CNC programming reading drawings and machine setup.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy.
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Flexibility to handle shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook Excel Word PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a 40hour week and occasional overtime with notice.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.

Work Environment: Exposure to manufacturing environments that may involve potential hazards such as noise electricity chemicals and heavy machinery. A general office environment is also experienced.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent travel vehicle operation standing walking bending squatting stooping and lifting.
  • Periodic use of power equipment and desk work involving computers.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 50 lbs.
