Job Overview:
The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of financial activities for a major construction project directly from the project site. This role demands a highly experienced accountant who can independently handle all accounting functionsfrom data entry to financial statement finalization. The ideal candidate will ensure financial integrity compliance and efficiency acting as the financial backbone of the project while collaborating closely with the site management team.
Key Responsibilities:
- FullCycle Accounting: Independently manage all accounting processes for the project including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll job costing and general ledger entries.
- Budget Management: Develop monitor and update project budgets ensuring that all expenditures align with project goals and financial constraints.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports including monthly project financial statements cost variance reports and cash flow projections.
- Job Costing & WIP: Oversee job costing and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting ensuring accurate tracking and allocation of project costs.
- Revenue & Expense Management: Manage project billing ensuring timely and accurate invoicing revenue recognition and expense management.
- MonthEnd Close: Conduct the monthend close process for the project including reconciliation of accounts preparation of journal entries and finalization of financial statements.
- Contract & Compliance Management: Review and manage all financial aspects of contracts including subcontractor agreements purchase orders and change orders ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company policies.
- Audit Preparation: Prepare for internal and external audits providing all necessary documentation and explanations related to the projects financial activities.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor project cash flow ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet obligations. Manage payment schedules and liaise with banks or financial institutions as needed.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure the project complies with all relevant tax regulations including sales tax use tax and payroll tax.
- Site Collaboration: Work closely with the site management team including project managers engineers and procurement staff to provide financial insights and support decisionmaking.
- Software Utilization: Utilize construction accounting software (e.g. Sage 300 QuickBooks Procore) for data entry financial tracking and reporting.
- Financial Control: Implement and maintain robust financial controls onsite to prevent errors fraud and inefficiencies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 57 years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in a construction project accounting role.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in construction accounting including job costing WIP reporting and percentage of completion accounting.
