Job Description
The Sustainable Design and Decarbonisation Manager supports the Sustainability Director with the implementation of the Company Environment Strategy and is accountable for ensuring all applicable aspects are included in the planning design and implementation of Company infrastructure projects. The overall goal is to shift the dial on sustainability at Company across 3 areas:
Sustainability Leadership and Advocacy
Help coordinate manage and retain sustainability staff and subconsultants engaged in the preparation of sustainability guidelines standards documentation and project deliverables to support implementation of the Company Environmental Strategy and all initiatives.
Interfaces closely with the Sustainable Development Division to ensure appropriate rigorous and timely assessment of Company development projects
Collaborate with Company Environment staff and teams as required to develop and support the implementation of the Company Environment Strategy during procurement design construction and operations in relation to permanent and temporary built environment assets.
Responsible for proactively engaging with planning and design teams on all infrastructure developments related environmental and sustainability issues
Guides master planners designers and sustainability specialists in the sustainability compliance of the Company regional structural plans and built environment designs
Identify and proactively engage with key internal and external stakeholders across the organization as required to achieve delivery of all related areas of Company Environmental Strategy: Circularity Climate Action and Sustainability
Sustainability Implementation:
Coordinates the effective high quality and timely interface between the Environment and other Company Departments in relation to planning and design for all built environment projects across Company
Manages the compliance review of the Sustainable masterplan or Building documentation in accordance with the Company RDMS and associated procedures
Guides master planners building designers and sustainability specialists in the sustainability compliance of the Company masterplans and building designs
Manages consultants in the preparation of sustainabilityrelated standards and guidelines policies and procedures
Drives the implementation of best practice and innovative design through an integrated development process with the objective of achieving Company sustainability goals for the built environment with particular focus on sustainability certification.
Monitors continued alignment of Company projects with the Company sustainability urban planning and building requirements as well as IFC performance standards and world s best practice.
Monitors that sustainability issues are effectively implemented during the master planning building design and construction process.
Monitors that Compliance Audits of contractor activities are conducted and audit records and reports for Company Environment Department are compiled as appropriate.
Provides technical support and guidance related to sustainability within Company and to external stakeholders where interface is required (e.g. developers/ consultants/ suppliers).
Supports with the implementation of sustainability initiatives and educational programs
Carbon accounting and reporting:
Develop and implement a plan for carbon accounting and reporting jointly with other units Environment Sustainability team ENOWA carbon unit Company authority
Oversee carbon accounting and calculation according to different accounting protocols such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the ISO 14064 standard
Develop and implement a carbon reporting framework for the Decarbonization Unit including templates procedures and timelines
Establish a unified data collection framework across the organization encompassing realtime monitoring in select locations and manual data acquisition by specific entities such as contractors
Requirements
Sustainable Planning & Design Implementation Manager should have a track record of leading and delivering environmental and sustainability review and approvals for major built environment megaprojects of international significance. In addition their experience should ideally span the development life cycle from conceptualization feasibility engineering construction commissioning operations and decommissioning.
Knowledge
Good technical understanding of Sustainable infrastructure rating systems such as LEED WELL MOSTADAMA ENVISION SITES PEER and/or CEEQUAL or equivalent.
Good working knowledge of design stage gate review process and interactions required with all related stakeholders.
Proven track record driving sustainable design processes policies and procedures Skills
Strong leadership interpersonal/people management and mentoring skills
Strong technical sustainability skills across built environment serving cities and communities including effective management of resources and assets i.e. Lifecycle economic evaluations etc.
Strong written and verbal communication & report writing skills
Experience
Ten (10) or more years experience across the fields of sustainable built environment planning and design including a broad understanding of sustainability benchmarking and rating systems such as LEED WELL BREEAM etc.
Education
A Master s degree in Sustainability or related Engineering field
Certifications
Other qualifications in sustainability related to planning design and/or engineering such National Green Infrastructure Certification Program or equivalent
Professional qualifications and work experience with development and/or implementation of Sustainability Rating Systems such as LEED AP WELL AP ENVISION AP
