Cost Accountant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The Cost Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and analyzing cost expenditures and purchases within the organization. This role involves assessing and monitoring financial data preparing cost analyses and reports and ensuring that all operations are costefficient and financially sound. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting with a focus on cost accounting and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cost Analysis: Analyze costs related to manufacturing production or other operational activities including raw materials labor and overhead.
• Inventory Management: Track and reconcile inventory levels ensuring accuracy in cost allocation and valuation.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts by analyzing cost trends and providing detailed cost projections.
• Variance Analysis: Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies between actual and budgeted costs and provide insights into the reasons for these variances.
• Standard Costing: Develop and maintain standard costing systems and update standards as necessary based on changes in production processes or market conditions.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed cost reports and financial statements highlighting areas of concern and opportunities for cost savings.
• Process Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements to reduce costs and enhance financial efficiency.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies procedures and relevant accounting standards (e.g. GAAP IFRS).
• Cost Allocation: Allocate costs to products or services accurately ensuring that all costs are captured and properly assigned.
• MonthEnd Close: Support the monthend and yearend closing processes by preparing journal entries reconciling accounts and analyzing financial data.
• Collaboration: Work closely with production procurement and other departments to ensure accurate cost tracking and reporting.
• Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explaining cost accounting methods.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 35 years of experience in cost accounting preferably within the manufacturing or agriculture field.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
• Skills:
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. SAP Oracle QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fastpaced environment.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with standard costing variance analysis and inventory management.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of industryspecific cost accounting practices and regulations.
