Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. Contract Position Title. Ecumenical Music Director

2. Scope of Responsibilities.

2.1. The Ecumenical Music Director plans coordinates and leads all music and choir performances as required for Little Rock AFB Ecumenical worship services special/holy day services and practice sessions. The Ecumenical Music Director shall assist the Little Rock AFB Chapel by performing services in accordance with the terms and conditions in this Performance Work Statement (PWS).

2.2. The maximum number of units that may be expended for services is 246 units per year.

2.3. A unit is defined as services for one worship service special/holy day service practice session or attendance of a coordination meeting if required by the Chapel Contracting Office Representative (COR). Other than music director services each unit also includes (as applicable) time for preservice coordination setup warm up clean up and opening/closing of facility.

2.4. From here on the Ecumenical Music Director will be referred to as Music director.

3. Education and Experience Requirement. The Music director must:

3.1. Have the ability to maintain healthy functional interpersonal relationships with personnel including chapel staff music directors and parishioners. There will be zero tolerance for disrespect harassment or any other behavior toward a staff member that that might adversely affect the Air Force by eroding morale good order discipline and respect for authority unit cohesion or mission accomplishment.

3.2. Have the ability and willingness to provide services in a pluralistic and multifaith chapel setting.

3.3. Be an innovative selfstarter who is skilled at problem solving.

3.4. Will be required to demonstrate (in person) the ability to read music proficiency direct a team of musicians and lead choir activities.

3.5. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience directing a choir or band.

3.6. Have knowledge and experience of musical traditions of Ecumenical worship (i.e. liturgical traditional and contemporary music.) and have the ability to plan coordinate and lead various types of music.

3.7. Successfully complete a DOD background check for working in the Chapel community.

4. General Responsibilities.

4.1. Provide music/choir leader services as required for Little Rock AFB Chapel. The Chaplain in charge of the service will determine the requirements related to each individual service and the music director will coordinate with the service chaplain and musicians to prepare for the specific requirements.

4.2. Responsible for coordinating all facility publicity and supply requests (with applicable outside agencies if necessary) in support of Ecumenical music requirements. Ensures that volunteers are available for special setup requirements and that the facility is set up and returned to its previous state and ensuring area(s) used are clean prior to departure.

4.3. No governmentowned equipment should be removed from base chapel without prior approval of the Chapel Primary POC. The music director is accountable for security and cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with their programs.

4.4. Provide personal transportation. Valid state registration proof of insurance and a valid drivers license are required to operate a privately owned vehicle on base.

4.5. Wear appropriate attire consistent with a professional appearance.

4.6. Comply with all Federal State and Local Laws and requirements and Air Force Instructions which are found to apply to this position.

4.7. Comply with mandatory training required for all music directors and maintain current training records.

4.8. The Government will provide the shared use of telephones for the transmission of official Government information only. The Music director shall not use Government telephones to transact personal business. The Government is not responsible for charges for collect calls accepted by music director employees. The use of Government phones by the Music director constitutes consent to monitoring in accordance with Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 4640.6 Communications Security Telephone Monitoring and Recording.

4.9. The Music director will be responsible for the paying of any Social Security taxes federal or local income taxes and state unemployment insurance premiums for themselves as well as for any individual employed or subcontracted by them to provide services under this contract.

5. Specific Responsibilities. The Music director will:

5.1. Perform for each service and rehearsal by leading congregational hymns and special music performed by choir and/or instrumentalist. Worship services are usually held on Sundays and rehearsals are performed once per week. Schedules are subject to change and additional performances may be required for special events and holy days. Services and rehearsals are approximately 1 hour in length.

5.2. In consultation with the Chapel Primary POC develop an annual calendar of events Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) budget and appropriated fund budget. The budgets will include anticipated funds required for music equipment supplies etc. This information is submitted as required by local Chaplain Corps operating procedures.

5.3. Coordinate with appropriate chaplain and musicians to determine musical requirements for all services/rehearsals. Submit music to the chaplain conducting the service for approval at least 5 duty days prior to performance.

5.4. Prepare and use digital worship music software (ex. Proclaim/PowerPoint/CCLI) music slides if required for service. If special music is required to be printed in bulletin or insert provide a digital copy of the text for any selected songs at least 5 duty days prior to performance.

5.5. Be available in the performance area at least 30 minutes prior to service and while services are being conducted. If warmup time with choir/musicians is needed music director will need to be available at least 30 minutes prior to service.

5.6. Be responsible for preparation and restoration of choir rehearsal and performance areas. Will ensure equipment used is put back into its correct place or assigned storage area that items are arranged so that tripping hazards are minimized and that trash is removed.

5.7. Maintain a current music library ensuring only music projected to be used is kept. Music will be filed alphabetically in storage equipment provided by the base chapel.

5.8. Provide recruitment training and direction of adult and/or childrens choirs and soloist.

5.9. Provide statistical program data when requested (i.e. attendance demographics).

5.10. Be accountable for opening and securing the chapel facility and other facilities used in conjunction with their programs.
