Job Description

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to inmates within a correctional facility. This role requires a combination of clinical expertise strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a challenging secure environment. The RN will collaborate with correctional officers medical staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure the health and wellbeing of the inmate population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments on inmates including vital signs medication administration and pill line management.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans based on assessment findings.
  • Administer medications treatments and immunizations as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Provide wound care manage chronic illnesses and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Educate inmates on health promotion disease prevention and medication management.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate medical records for all inmates.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members including medical practitioners to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere to all facility policies procedures and security protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff development programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state.
  • 12 years of experience required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Experience in correctional healthcare or a related field is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highstress secure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand walk and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.

Work Environment

  • Correctional facility setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases violence and hazardous materials.
  • Irregular work hours may be required including weekends and holidays.
