Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to inmates within a correctional facility. This role requires a combination of clinical expertise strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a challenging secure environment. The RN will collaborate with correctional officers medical staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure the health and wellbeing of the inmate population.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments on inmates including vital signs medication administration and pill line management.
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans based on assessment findings.
- Administer medications treatments and immunizations as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Provide wound care manage chronic illnesses and respond to medical emergencies.
- Educate inmates on health promotion disease prevention and medication management.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate medical records for all inmates.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members including medical practitioners to ensure continuity of care.
- Adhere to all facility policies procedures and security protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff development programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state.
- 12 years of experience required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Experience in correctional healthcare or a related field is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highstress secure environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand walk and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations.
Work Environment
- Correctional facility setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases violence and hazardous materials.
- Irregular work hours may be required including weekends and holidays.
