Job Description: Peer Recovery Support Specialist

Location: Winchester VA

Organization: Spread the Word Full Gospel Church Stephens City VA

Position Overview: Spread the Word Full Gospel Church is seeking a dedicated Peer Recovery Support Specialist to join our team in Winchester VA. This role is integral to our substance abuse and mental health programs providing essential support and guidance to individuals on their path to recovery. The ideal candidate will have personal experience with recovery and possess a passion for helping others overcome challenges associated with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals participating in substance abuse and mental health programs at Spread the Word Full Gospel Church.
  • Foster a supportive and nonjudgmental environment conducive to recovery.
  • Conduct individual and group sessions to facilitate discussions on recovery strategies coping mechanisms and life skills.
  • Assist clients in setting recovery goals and developing personalized recovery plans.
  • Advocate for clients and help them navigate community resources and support networks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with clients.
  • Collaborate with church staff and external stakeholders to coordinate services and support for program participants.
  • Document client progress and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Lived experience with substance abuse recovery and/or mental health challenges required.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CPRS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of recovery principles and evidencebased practices in substance abuse and mental health treatment.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting individuals in crisis or recovery.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Additional Information:

  • This position is fulltime/parttime (specify).
  • Schedule may include evenings and weekends to accommodate client needs and program activities.
