Located in the Slough we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Head of Department for Sociology to join our dynamic team. The Role

As the Head of Department for Sociology you will:

  • Lead and manage the Sociology department ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement an engaging and challenging curriculum that inspires students and meets their diverse needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department driving continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for departmental staff.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment promoting the schools values and ethos.
  • Collaborate with other heads of departments and senior leadership to contribute to the overall success of the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning preparation and delivery of highquality Sociology lessons.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Sociology teachers offering guidance and support.
  • Track and analyse student progress implementing strategies to address areas of improvement.
  • Coordinate departmental meetings setting agendas and ensuring effective communication.
  • Manage departmental resources including budgeting and procurement.
  • Liaise with parents carers and external agencies to support student learning and wellbeing.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree in Sociology or a related field with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have significant teaching experience preferably with leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of improving student outcomes.
  • Possess excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Be committed to continuing professional development and staying abreast of educational best practices.
  • Exhibit strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and inspire both staff and students.
  • Be enthusiastic about fostering a love for Sociology and promoting critical thinking skills.
