Study Abroad Counselor

Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide oneonone advising to students interested in studying abroad assisting in program selection and course planning
• Offer guidance on visa requirements travel arrangements and accommodation options
• Organize and conduct informational sessions and workshops to promote study abroad opportunities
• Assist in the application and documentation process ensuring all requirements are met
• Advise on financial aid and scholarship opportunities for international study
• Collaborate with academic departments to facilitate credit transfer and academic integration
• Stay updated on international travel advisories and provide risk assessment and safety guidance
• Support students in adapting to a new cultural and academic environment
• Resolve issues related to international travel housing and program adjustments
• Participate in orientation programs and predeparture briefings
• Conduct postprogram evaluations and gather feedback from participants
• Maintain accurate records of student interactions and program participation
• Collaborate with university stakeholders to enhance study abroad program offerings
• Contribute to the development of marketing materials and outreach strategies
• Engage in professional development and attend conferences and workshops related to study abroad programs

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Education Counseling International Relations or related field
• Proven experience in advising or counseling role preferably in an educational setting
• Strong understanding of international education programs and study abroad processes
• Knowledge of visa regulations travel documentation and international student services
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students faculty and staff
• Cultural sensitivity and awareness of global issues
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to problemsolve and address student concerns effectively
• Experience in program development and event planning
• Proficiency in MS Office and student advising software
• Customer serviceoriented approach with a focus on student success
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate student records
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required
