Job Description


Job Title: Data Analyst (contract)
Location: Edinburgh Hybrid/Remote (days in office to be confirmed; must be flexible to be onsite as required)
Rate: 425 per day (Outside IR35)

Introduction:
Our client a leading player in the Financial Services sector is seeking a talented Data Analyst to join their dynamic team. With a commitment to excellence and innovation we are dedicated to providing unparalleled services to our customers. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our data processes contributing significantly to our operational success in the industry.

Role summary:
As a Data Analyst you will be responsible for overseeing the extraction of critical data sets verifying their accuracy and identifying any discrepancies. This role requires a keen eye for detail strong analytical skills and a robust understanding of data management principles. You will play a vital role in maintaining data integrity and supporting key business functions within the Financial Services domain.

Key responsibilities:
Automate Conversion of Excel Reports to CSV:
Develop and implement a process to automatically convert regularly produced formatted Excel reports into CSV data extracts.
Data Dictionary and Control File Creation:
Create data dictionaries that define the structure contents and meaning of the data in the CSV files.
Develop control files to manage and document the conversion and validation process.
Validation of CSV Contents:
Implement a validation step to verify that the contents of the CSV files match the original Excel workbooks.
Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to extract analyse and validate complex datasets.
Develop and implement data quality standards and procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Identify data anomalies investigate root causes and propose solutions to enhance data quality.

Essential:
Data Engineering:
Strong experience with data extraction transformation and loading (ETL) processes.
Proficiency in handling and manipulating large datasets.
Automation Scripting:
Expertise in scripting languages such as Python R or similar for automation tasks.
Familiarity with libraries and tools for working with Excel and CSV files (e.g. pandas in Python).
Validation and Quality Assurance:
Experience with data validation techniques to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
Ability to create automated validation scripts.
Documentation:
Skills in producing comprehensive data dictionaries and control files.
Strong attention to detail to document processes clearly and accurately.
Proven experience in data extraction validation and cleansing within the Financial Services sector.
Excellent understanding of data management best practices and quality assurance methodologies.
Ability to interpret and analyse complex data sets to drive business insights.

Desirable:
Prior experience working with financial data or within a banking environment.
Understanding of postproduction data processes in business teams.
Familiarity with data visualisation techniques and tools.
Experience working with largescale data warehouses and cloudbased platforms.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data protection and financial reporting.
Background in project management or process improvement initiatives.
Continuous learning mindset with a willingness to adapt to evolving technologies.
