REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator/ Site Lead
JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves as an informed and knowledgeable mentor for
students throughout the academic school year and/or summer session. The Peer Advisor will
enhance student access to academic support services. They will teach students about academic
support technology and encourage factbased decision making for students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide academic advising to students in all subject matter (Algebra 1 & 2 Geometry
Biology Chemistry English etc.)
Mentor and coach students academically and socialemotionally.
Be proactive in assisting students with homework/ classwork and provide different ways
of understanding a subject matter.
Take initiative to work on reports data goals and promotion when no students are
present.
Submit weekly reports to their Site Coordinator and/or Site Lead. Peer Advisors will also
keep track of the students they work with by having students complete daily signin
sheets.
Fulfill the job responsibility that each site entails.
Will attend team meetings with Site Coordinators and/or Site Leads as well as attend
mandatory training.
Must respond promptly to texts and emails.
Have reliable transportation internet and computer access.
Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of
confidentiality regarding student and personnel information. Demonstrate
professionalism through punctuality and have consistent reliable attendance. Comply
with all NCRF and district policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Strong Math Skills are a Plus (Geometry Algebra I & II).
Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills.
Strong Mentoring Skills are a Plus.
Able to work effectively with others.
Minimum of a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
Patient and able to connect with students.
Passionate about making a difference with the underrepresented and underserved student
body.
Ability to work both independently and cooperatively exercise judgment and creativity
organize work set priorities meet deadlines and work under pressure with constant
disruptions.
Skills that exemplify high levels of computer proficiency and application of technology.
(proficient in MS ExcelWord PowerPoint and Google Platform).
Excellent skills in English grammar spelling and punctuation.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
Ability to make public presentations in small or large group settings.
Ability to work as part of a team and continue learning through professional
development.
Ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner.
Ability to work efficiently and effectively with staff and public.
Must be available for at least 1640 hours per week.
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
All NCRF employees/contractors shall undergo a criminal background check including a
fingerprint check by State and/or FBI.
If working in the San Diego County program you will be required to complete an
additional background check the V.I.P. (Volunteers in Probation).
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
At least 2 years of work experience preferably in a related field. Candidates with a degree or
working towards their degree are preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit lift carry
move about hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a
computer display terminal. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 to 50
pounds.
Pay Range: $17.00 $19.00 per hour depending on experience
