Description:
The Unix Administrator plays a crucial role in developing supporting and deploying stable and costeffective Unix environments. They are responsible for the installation monitoring and maintenance of Unix and Linux operating systems and server hardware components. Automation is a key principle used by the Unix Administrator to streamline standard tasks enabling the team to focus on engineering highperformance solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and Deploy Unix Servers: Design and deploy Unix servers and operating systems including server hardware virtualization technologies and Unix/Linux operating systems both onpremises and in cloudbased environments.
- Develop Standards and Automation: Develop and improve processing standards procedures and automation tools to enhance efficiency and scalability in a constantly evolving environment.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical support and serve as a crossteam technical lead during system designs developments and deployments. Conduct deep troubleshooting in an advanced integrated environment.
- Vendor Coordination: Work closely with software vendors to coordinate thirdparty software installs and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
- Leadership and Mentoring: Provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff assisting in the development of technical customer and project management skills.
- Service Improvement: Monitor report and create service improvement plans to meet client SLAs. Focus on improving operational efficiency and automation to reduce costs.
- SQL Knowledge: Utilize SQL for reporting and scripting purposes.
Technical Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of Linux and AIX operating systems and hardware including multiple architectures.
- Cloud systems engineering and deployment experience (TerraForm CloudInit).
- Extensive experience with hypervisors and virtualization such as KVM PowerVM and PowerKVM.
- Working experience in Kubernetes Docker and Container technologies.
- Working experience or understanding in Kafka ELK/Splunk.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment technologies including GIT/Jenkins pipelines.
- Understanding and experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Infrastructure as Code.
- Extensive knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SAN) based servers.
- Experience with SAN Storage and Backup administration is a plus.
- Working experience or understanding in using CEPH storage.
- Project management experience including driving projects involving multiple technical and business teams.
- Advanced knowledge of multiple scripting languages: Perl KSH Python required bash optional.
- Ability to balance and manage customer needs daily responsibilities and projects simultaneously.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and/or education.
- 5 to 8 years of relevant experience required.
