Job Description
Summary/ Objective:
The Safety Systems Specialist performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas:
- Lead the organizations Safety & Health Management System (SHMS)(e.g. ISO 45001).
- Work alongside and support team members in the safety department.
- Establish verify and promote safe and healthy working conditions.
- Identify and control safety hazards.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Train groups and individuals on safety and security topics.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position is primarily a leadership compliance and technology role. This person typically will not have direct report(s) but may be assigned to supervise consultants or contractors.
Typical Duties / Responsibilities:
- Prompt regular and dependable attendance is essential.
- Lead the organization in implementation of the ISO 45001SHMS. Bring about teamwork and enthusiasm. Effectively communicate targets and status with team members and with management. Lead the organization to continuously improve our SHMS. Achieve continued certification in the SHMS.
- Assist in development and implementation of safety and security policies and procedures.
- Assist with management of onsite contractors.
- Assist with keeping various records including occupational injury records(OSHA 300 and 300A forms).
- Participate in developing department goals budgets and systems.
- Assist with the security program and practices. Help revise as necessary.
- Serve in an oncall rotation with about ten team members for weekends and holidays. Support the Shift Supervisor by phone and report to the plant within an hour if needed when oncall.
- Assist in preparation of reports budgets and action plans. Implement action plans to achieve targets.
- Recommend innovative approaches policies and procedures to continually improve the effectiveness efficiency and satisfaction of team members that the safety team supports.
- Maintain compliance with federal state and local laws and regulations. Document compliance.
- Assist in coordinating community events (e.g. fund raising for local charities).
- Frequently interact with employees in their work areas.
- Function as the Safety Managers designee in the managers absence.
- Additional assignments as deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications
- 2 years of related Safety experience in an industrial environment is necessary.
- A bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health or engineering is desired.
- A degree in another field or related experience may be acceptable.
- Experience with a Safety & Health Management System such as ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001 or OSHA VPP STAR is highly desired.
- Strong computer software skills are essential.
- Education and experience in emergency response and security is highly desirable.
