Job Description

Photonic Devices Researcher The company is a global leader in photonic quantum computing. A deeptech startup with offices in Enschede and Amsterdam the Netherlands and Ulm and Stuttgart Germany. Since our inception in 2019 we have delivered two world recordbreaking quantum processors and won a 14M contract to build a universal quantum computer for the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). As a fastgrowing company we are now looking for Photonics Devices Researcher on phase shifters switches and modulators for our new subsidiary in Ulm Germany. What will you be doing As a photonics devices researcher you will be part of the engineering team that works on developing the next generation of our photonic quantum computer as part of German Space Agencys Quantum Computing Initiative. Your tasks will be focused on designing and characterizing photonic devices and systems for quantum computing e.g. phase shifters switches modulators. Depending on your background they may include numerical and theoretical electromagnetics simulations setup of experiments chip characterization control system development data analysis and system testing. You will work with a team of photonic device designers and quantum computing architects. You will take care of: Take endtoend responsibility of photonic device development specification design test characterization and system demonstrations. Demonstrate optical switching and modulation. Develop setups integrating photonics and driver electronics components devices and equipment Test measurement and characterization of photonic devices and systems including setup build up and data acquisition and analysis. Validate new photonics devices in systems in a lab environment. Research on new technologies for quantum photonics. Manage internal and EU projects. Continuously keep up to date with the latest scientific and engineering progress in photonics and quantum optics Working in a multidisciplinary team with electrical engineers and quantum physicists Report results at conferences and internal meetings we can shape the position depending on seniority. What we ask of you: PhD in Applied Physics Electrical engineering Telecommunications or relevant discipline Experience with designing and demonstrating optical switches and modulators and working with telecommunication equipment Experience with FPGA prototyping is a strong plus We are looking for your handson knowledge to characterize photonic devices and subsequently evaluate the data in a systematic way. Knowledge of component designs such as microrings MZI lasers etc.. is a plus Knowledge of assembly and packaging of PICs is a strong plus. Handson mentality with proactive innovative accurate and independent style of working Critical thinking and problemsolving skills Good communication skills and teamwork Passion for your profession Proficiency in English language (verbal & written) German is a plus
