Job Description

The Azure Lead DevOps Engineer will work within the global Azure Cloud Services team, responsible for building highly resilient, scalable, reusable, and efficient Azure infrastructure in an automated manner. The Azure Lead DevOps Engineers role is to develop the technical capability to enable hosting applications on the Microsoft cloud platform securely, resiliently, and efficiently while meeting security and risk standards. This role reports to the Azure ASP Regional Lead and is accountable for a regional team of DevOps engineers.

Responsibilities include:
  • Engineering solutions on the Azure foundation platform using Infrastructure-as-Code methods (e.g., Terraform).
  • Conducting code reviews, providing feedback, and maintaining solution quality and performance for the team.
  • Building and managing the Azure foundation platform for application deployments.
  • Ensuring the Azure platform aligns with the operational risk framework.
  • Complying with architecture governance, policy, and standards.
  • Owning the engineering operating model and tools (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Jira, GSD, Confluence).
  • Representing the Azure platform in discussions with internal IT partners and Microsoft.
  • Providing management reporting for data-driven discussions and continuous improvement.
  • Executing the functional pattern lifecycle process (design, document, develop, and maintain code library).
  • Integrating, configuring, deploying, and managing centrally provided common cloud services (e.g., IAM, networking, monitoring, operating systems, containers).
  • Managing Azure connectivity and networking (e.g., Express Route, DNS, IP allocation, traffic routing, NSGs, and Azure Firewall).
  • Ensuring compliance with centrally defined security.
  • Ensuring compliance with operational risk standards (e.g., network, firewall, OS, logging, monitoring, availability, resiliency).
  • Updating support and operational documentation as needed.
  • Supporting the Service Delivery Manager in implementing a 24x7 follow-the-sun support model.
  • Developing solutions that meet business contingency standards.
  • Promoting the reuse of patterns.
  • Acting as an Azure Platform evangelist with customers, partners, and external communities.
  • Providing management reporting for data-driven discussions and continuous improvement.
  • Gathering requirements and maintaining continuous feedback loops between Cybersecurity and the wider Azure Cloud Services team.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following experience and qualifications:
  • Previous experience as an Engineering Lead in an enterprise organization.
  • People management experience, including objective setting and performance reviews.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Non-Functional Requirements.
  • Experience managing stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience with cloud service providers, infrastructure build, and configurations.
  • Experience building various services in Azure.
  • Expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and techniques.
  • Experience with security and compliance, including IAM and cloud compliance/auditing/monitoring tools.
  • Customer/stakeholder focus and the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills, working collaboratively in an agile environment.
  • A track record of continuous improvement and change implementation.
  • Setting and achieving challenging short, medium, and long-term goals.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills (analytical and creative).
  • Experience in working within an Agile team environment.
  • Ability to acquire new skills quickly.
  • Proficiency in English.
Desirable Skills:
  • Industry-recognized cloud certifications.
  • Programming experience in languages like PowerShell, Terraform, Go, Bash, Windows command prompt, and object-oriented programming languages.
  • Technical knowledge in various areas such as Directory Services, Microsoft Identity, Physical Networking, Firewalls, SDN, XPN, Billing, Operating Systems, Containers, and Azure Resource Hierarchy.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries.
