We are currently seeking a Project Document Controller/Writer for a 12+ month contract with our esteemed Randstad client in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of meeting end-user documentation needs in technical programs, encompassing physical and electronic security systems, design and construction management, risk management, and data analytics development. This role requires a candidate who can analyze complex information, including management and governance processes, and possesses a passion for making intricate details accessible to a broader audience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive documentation aligned with project requirements and organizational standards.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of products and services, translating complex information into simple, polished, and engaging content.
- Write user-friendly content tailored to meet the needs of the target audience.
- Create and maintain a detailed database of reference materials, incorporating research, usability tests, and design specifications.
- Evaluate existing content and propose innovative methods for improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct research and collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to gather relevant technical information, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
- Develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, policies, technical specifications, maintenance documentation, and process documentation supporting projects and Amtrak Corporate Security department needs.
- Collaborate with development and support leads to identify documentation repositories and determine optimal solutions for data compilation and centralized storage.
- Enforce document change control processes and maintain version histories for easy identification of changes.
- Develop content for websites and other online media, ensuring a consistent message across all documentation.
- Communicate effectively with clients and users, gathering feedback and responding to their needs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively meeting project deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated instructional writing skills and experience providing clear and concise direction on technically complex equipment.
- Proficiency in communicating technical information to various stakeholders and related technical staff.
- Editing and proofreading skills to ensure documents are free of grammatical mistakes and technical inaccuracies.
- Self-starter with project management, critical thinking, organizational, and independent work skills.
- Proficient PC skills, with expert command of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Flexibility to work extended hours if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6-9 years of experience.
- Knowledge in technical fields such as physical security, engineering, computer science, or information systems.
- Demonstrated experience or working knowledge of various data management business systems.
- Some experience in railroad-related or similar transportation/industrial activity with understanding of technical concepts, terms, and fleet/equipment nomenclature.
