Wireless Lead Engineer

Rockville, MD

Onsite

Scope of Work:

Vendor will provide a technical contractor to support Montgomery County's Enterprise Wireless Network.

1) Contractor will be responsible for the configuration, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and analysis of Wireless infrastructure services to deliver voice, video and data applications to Montgomery County Government and County Agency offices.

2) Contractor will be responsible for leading a team of 3-4 Wireless Engineers and will have direct control over day-to-day support operations as well as leading Wireless projects and making architectural/design decisions.

3) Contractor will have demonstrable experience in:

Various 802.11 wireless network standards, wireless security mechanisms, wireless design principles, RF technology, and wireless network control systems, with a primary focus on Aruba and Cisco. 10+ years

Aruba Airwave (NMS) administration to include support, SW/HW upgrades, reporting, alert notification, integration with Solarwinds. 7+ years

Aruba Wireless Controller administration to include support, SW/HW upgrades, reporting, alert notification, integration with Solarwinds. 7+ years

The use of wireless network planning and survey tools, such as AirMagnet, Ekahau, Tamograph Site Survey, etc. 7+ years

Actively monitoring and reacting to real-time network conditions and leading improvement efforts in support of monitoring, performance, and reporting. 10+ years

Cisco based routing and switching platforms in an Enterprise environment. Contractor should also be well versed in the theory of operation, deployment, and monitoring of network protocols such as VoIP, SNMP, NetFlow, HSRP, Spanning Tree, QoS/CoS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, NAT/PAT, NTP, RADIUS, DNS, DHCP. 10+ years

The design and solutions deployment of resilient, high-speed, Enterprise network segments. Both, wired and wireless. 7+ years

The use of Wireshark packet analyzer to diagnose network performance problems. 7+ years

WAN carrier technologies (MPLS, DMVPN, IPsec, T-1, OC-3, SONET, High Speed Internet) and standards 10+ years

LAN technologies (GigabitEthernet, PoE, link aggregation, CDP, ARP, VLAN's & trunking) 10+ years

Knowledge of basic power distribution and protection systems 10+ years

Experience in creating network staff training materials, network diagrams (Microsoft Visio), and general documentation 5+ years

Hands on experience with Network Management Systems 5+ years

4) Contractor will work side-by-side with County staff to design, deploy, monitor, and maintain Wireless and Wired network infrastructure.

5) Contractor will report directly to Manager of Network Services.

6) Contractor may work under the direction of Network Services staff as assigned

The Department of Technology & Enterprise Business Solutions reserves the right to review and make final decisions as it pertains to contractors and their replacement.

Contractors are expected to work hours as assigned, also to work periodically in the field at remote County locations. Such assignments may require contractors to work a normal business day schedule or a combination of a normal business day, off-hours and weekends. Requests to work off-hours are anticipated to be approximately 15%. When working in the field, contractors must furnish their own transportation. Montgomery County Government does not provide vehicles to contractors. This contract does not permit reimbursement for expenses. The County will provide materials and equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.

Vendor will provide to Montgomery County Government contractor candidates with technical experience and qualifications capable of supporting service provisioning & delivery as outlined in the above Scope of Work.

All candidates:

Must be well organized, responsible, and accountable

Must be detail-oriented, quick to learn, self-motivated

Have ability to follow directions and execute written procedures

Must be available for some work off-hours and weekends

Must communicate effectively with associates and others over telephone, SMS text, and via Email

Must be able to lift 25 pounds

Must possess reliable transportation to ensure work attendance as scheduled

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred, Aruba Certifications, CCNA
