Our client, one of the largest global providers of logistics in the beverage sector, consumer goods, clothing, machinery and petroleum products, has an immediate opening for a Customs Brokerage Manager in their Jamaica NY, office.

Job Description:

Responsible for the management and successful growth and development of a strong Customs Brokerage department. Coordinate, manage and oversee the Customs Brokerage department to ensure the compliance of employees with the company policies, US Customs regulations, customer service requirements/procedures, protection of the company liabilities and the day-to-day clearing of inbound cargo. Oversee, assist, train and maintain responsibility for the preparation of customs entries and overall workflow. Maintain a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multi-task various tasks and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Organization, Management and Leadership of the Customs Brokerage Department.
  • Monitor the brokerage staff for efficiency, accuracy and productivity.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses within the Customs Brokerage Department and work to make brokerage supervisor on improvements where necessary.
  • Work very closely and in conjunction with the brokerage supervisor, conduct regular meetings on expectations, transparencies, goals settings.
  • Train and mentor department members in areas of Customers Brokerage Regulations, HTS Codes, provide additional training, instructions, re-distribution of work.
  • Monitor team performance against company standards and department goals; in conjunction with the brokerage supervisor
  • Regular audit of shipment documents and accounting practices.
  • Monitor problem files and identify compliance issues.
  • Communicate with the Compliance department to implement corrective action when necessary and outline corrective actions.
  • Review through reporting timely and orderly workflow including release, billing and auditing.
  • Provide management guidelines, training and organization to the department.
  • Show leadership abilities and initiative.
  • Adjust systems which will allow the department to function more effectively and efficiently as a whole.
  • Outline responsibilities to each member of the department and provide support as needed but in conjunction and discussions with the brokerage supervisor.
  • Work alongside the compliance Team to ensure new accounts are on-boarded properly, POA s and Bonds are set up as per the company SOP s.
  • Conduct regular meetings with staff members and monthly full department meetings in order to communicate department goals and expectations. Work closely with other departments and other offices to deliver a high level of service to our clients.
  • Prepare annual reviews for department staff.
  • Prepare reports as related to staff productivity for the brokerage file count and duty accuracy.
  • Identify problems and offer resolutions on all Customs brokerage related matters along with guidance as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Supervision, Control and Ownership of the Customs Brokerage Department as the branch s permit holder. Display excellent problem solving, technical and analytical skills.
  • Provide management and the brokerage department level support to ensure the regulatory and statutory compliance of the company s import clearances filed on behalf of our clients and as presented to US Customs and PGA.
  • Run, review and monitor all reports reflecting the financial and compliance aspects of the entry such as duties due verses paid on the Preliminary and Final Statements.
  • Responsible for review and submission of the Preliminary, Final ACH and PMS statements.
  • Ensure cross training is provided for these functionalities within the department.
  • Conduct random file audits and closely monitor files with high risk of penalty and/or enforcement of regulations. Ensure compliance with company s Import and Brokerage standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare and submit Post Entry Corrections of behalf of the Company and our Clients AND or delegate under the proper supervision
  • Assist in identifying and providing training to staff on all changes to the CBP regulations and roll out of new procedures when the government makes changes.
  • Monitor problem files and identify compliance issues. Communicate with the Compliance department to implement corrective action when necessary.
  • Show leadership abilities and initiative. Work closely with other departments and other offices to deliver a high level of service to our clients and act as the Key Account escalation manager to assigned accounts
  • Work closely and in conjunction with the brokerage supervisor to ensure efficiency in all processes within the company and department.
  • Work with the Compliance Team to ensure new accounts are on-boarded properly.
  • Conduct regular meetings in order to communicate compliance goals and expectations. Collaborate in preparation of individual performance reviews, disciplinary actions, coaching and staff cross training periodically where required and assist with resolution of issues.
  • Communicate with U.S. Customs, PGA s as needed and manage all the communication to and from CBP act as the liaison officer between US Customs, Brokerage Department and Compliance departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and reports to the LCHB REGIONAL DIRECTOR - CEO

Requirements:

  • Bachelor s Degree is preferred
  • Must have and maintain an active Customs Brokerage License
  • 5+ years Customs Brokerage import experience with an extensive and broad range of commodities. Familiarity with ADD/ CVD, FDA, EPA, F & W, CBMA, FAA, TTB
  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory/ management role within a Customs Brokerage department
  • Employee must have basic user knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Experience with Editrade is a plus
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent team-building skills and ability to train staff
  • Ability to delegate workload to team
  • Strategic planning experience
  • Strong organization skills and ability to multitask
  • Proven professionalism and reliability
  • Strong mathematical skills, such as appropriately add and compute fees, percentages, taxes, currency conversions, weight, cube, measures, U.S. Customs and other agency fees.
