Job Description

QuEra Computing, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Designer or Engineer to design, assemble, and maintain the mechanical, thermal, and opto-mechanical subsystems critical to the development of our quantum computing platform. The Designer or Engineer must be able to work on a wide scope of problems in a highly multidisciplinary team of physicists and engineers with a skill for balancing performance, cost, and schedule. The ideal candidate will bring professional engineering standards and best-practices from previous work experience in industry.

Basic qualifications

  • Experience and proficiency in design of mechanical parts for CNC manufacturing
  • Experience with a major 3D CAD software, such as Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor
  • Experience with an accompanying Product Data Management (PDM) software for CAD software
  • Proficiency in preparing mechanical drawings and coordinating with machine shops and/or other contract manufacturers
  • Proficiency in assembly of mechanical parts

Essential responsibilities

  • Design of enclosures for electronic and opto-electronic assemblies
  • Design of mechanisms, fixtures, and opto-mechanical components
  • Development of block diagrams, 3D component/assembly models, and wiring diagrams for QuEra’s systems
  • Preparation of drawings and design files for manufacturing and assembly, including tolerancing and assembly steps
  • Coordination with the procurement team to manage contract manufacturing of components and assemblies

Preferred qualifications

  • 5+ years’ work experience in a professional engineering environment
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault
  • Experience with basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structures and thermal-fluids
  • Experience with opto-mechanical and/or thermal-fluid systems
