Job Description

Type: Full Time
Location: Hybrid in Chicago, IL
Salary: $45,000 - $55,000

Our client, a boutique full-service boutique PR and marketing agency in the hospitality industry, are looking to add a Junior Public Relations Account Specialist to their growing team to support account executives and manage multiple media accounts. In this role, you will create monthly meeting agendas/recaps, run bi-monthly client activity reports, and update integrated marketing plans. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years’ experience working in an agency setting, specifically in the hospitality industry. This is a hybrid position in the Chicago, IL area.

Role & Responsibilities
Public Relations
  • develop pitch writing/management and press material writing skills; lead pitch coordination and strategy for multiple client accounts.
  • Pitch journalists in response to inquiries, actively targeting media, short-lead and long-lead, local national pitching (online, print, and broadcast)
  • Create targeted media lists for pitches, press kit/release mailings and events
  • Create custom pitch angles, research and develop story ideas, media opportunities and new media outlets relevant to clients; create new trends relevant to our clients; determine appropriateness of pitch for publication and/or journalist; follow up with media
  • Manage HAROs and reactive pitching
  • Active ideator / participant in topic brainstorm with team members
  • Team lead for coordinating and executing bio and press material writing/editing
  • General media list building and maintenance; ongoing journalist research
  • Develop relationships with local and national media contacts to include entertaining at client establishments
  • Stay updated on media trends (i.e. reading newsletters, articles and following on social) to
  • Send media hits (in real time) and media leads to clients in a timely fashion
  • Track media contacts on MuckRack, KLPR Instagram, and Twitter
  • Track pitch opportunities sent and secured
  • Track media alerts on MuckRack
  • Update MuckRack Coverage Reports
Admin, Social, Marketing, & Partnerships
  • Communicate with client questions and media inquiries within the day, inquiring about brand-aligned, new initiatives and effective partnership opportunities.
  • Team / peer newsletter review for your accounts to make sure messaging is aligned
  • Team / peer social media calendar review for your accounts to make sure messaging is aligned
  • Occasional one-off writing assignments (website copy, in-house marketing collateral)
  • Report bi-monthly activity for various clients through Client Activity Reports (CARs)
  • Create and update client integrated marketing plans to inform year-long strategy through Integrated Marketing Plans (IMPs)
Support System for Account Lead
  • Record all client activity
  • Work with direct supervisor to develop weekly to-do list of tasks
  • Support the account lead in executing monthly PR agendas and recaps (responsible for notes during monthly meetings for recap distribution)
  • Research and secure participation of clients/chefs/restaurants for food and wine-related events; charitable and otherwise
  • Assist in planning press trips, individual media visits and media lunches/dinners/meetings/tours, coordinating details related to the trip
  • Develop budgets for media and client related travel
  • Prepare for and participate in monthly client agenda meetings
