Position: My SQL & Oracle DBA - Service Desk
Location: Remote
Duration: (3 month contract to hire)
Third shift:
Working hours 12 am midnight to 8 am CST
POSITION
We are seeking a mid-level database administrator to be a part of our U.S. Service Desk team. This person would have a wide range of knowledge on both Unix and Windows platforms, preferably specializing in MySQL, with Oracle and SQL Server as a plus, in that order.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful person for this role will be experienced in MySQL, with Oracle and/or SQL Server administration a plus.
They should be able to handle the following tasks:
Respond to Service Desk tickets in a timely manner Troubleshoot and triage tickets in queue Follow documentation and handling instructions Know when to escalate critical issues Speak clearly and confidently with clients and staff Work well in stressful situations
Examples of tasks performed include:
- Resolve MySQL binlog space issues
- Resolve MySQL evictions in a clustered environment
- Troubleshoot slave issues
- Rebuild MySQL slaves if needed
- Troubleshoot database down issues
- Escalate server down issues
- Resolve blocking locks, long running sessions, and/or deadlocks
- Monitor performance, provide resolution and/or articulate status to others
- Resolve MySQL and/or Oracle backup issues
- Adding space to an Oracle tablespace
- Troubleshoot Oracle archiver issues
- Grant permissions and roles in Oracle
In this role they will be willing to:
- Provide support on third shifts
Third shift:
12am midnight to 8am CST
- Be willing to work a set schedule but cover for others when on vacation or holiday
- Be willing to work weekends
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A Service Desk consultant has the following skill sets:
- 3-5 years in MySQL production database administration
- 1-2 years in Oracle database or SQL Server database administration a plus
- Be familiar with high-Availability designs
- MySQL Group Replication
- Oracle DataGuard, RAC, ASM, Exadata a plus
- SQL Server AlwaysOn a plus
- Be familiar with replication concepts
- MySQL Replication highly desired in the following areas
- Asynchronous Master-Slave
- Master-Master
- InnoDB Cluster (Group Replication)
- Galera Replication
- Oracle Golden Gate a plus
- Be familiar with variety of backup solutions and concepts
- MySQL full backups
- MySQL binlog backups
- Oracle RMAN a plus
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining high quality of deliverables
- Monitor system's health and performance
- Performance troubleshooting and resolution
- Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time
- Experience working with Windows servers and Unix
- Experience using vi editor
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Flexible, team player, "get-it-done" personality
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
