Freight Broker / Account Executive
Location Pittsburgh, PA (Office is West of the City)
Our Client, a Transportation Management Company developed to provide exceptional service by managing trucking and logistics activities their customers, is seeking an experienced, customer focused, driven Freight Broker to join their fast-paced operations at their Pittsburgh location.
The Broker / Account Executive will possess outstanding sales experience, honed customer service skill and a passion for technology and new systems. The Company is strategically aligned with numerous assets-based sister companies in dry van, flatbed, liquid food grade tank, bulk dry commodities, and intermodal drayage.
This sales position is responsible for all day-to-day activities of logistics, transportation, and freight brokerage for the company to include, contracting, carrier management and quality, customer and supplier interaction, lane bidding and implementation, and operational issues.
Requirements:
- HS Diploma/GED required (Degree in Business Admin, Logistics & Supply Chain, or related field preferred)
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in logistics, sales, or a related field required
- Must have strong math skills to understand percentages, rate calculations, weights and measures
- Need to be very proficient in US Geography (Understanding regions of throughout U.S.)
- Strong interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to persuade and communicate via phone
- Must have strong writing & computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office & TMS software systems
- Confidently making good decisions under time pressure; Thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires problem solving and strong decision-making skills with consistent follow up
- Must be adaptable to changing needs of clients
Essential Responsibilities:
- Source and secure the transportation needs of new and existing customers by taking a proactive approach with finding freight and developing new business (researching and cold calling)
- Manage shipping and carrier relationships; liaising with the client, carrier, shipper & receiver
- Negotiate fair rates with both the client and carrier, and contract and pricing agreements with carriers
- Communicate information regarding shipment status to customers timely, consistently, and regularly
- Respond to customer concerns and queries professionally and resolve freight discrepancies in a timely manner to the point of resolution
- Develop a portfolio and sales pipeline and new sales strategies to improve business
- Select reputable carriers for excellent freight services of negotiated loads
- Accurately enter and maintain up-to-date information on a continuous basis in TMS
- Work with shippers, carriers and dispatch operations to manage schedules
- Plan, coordinate, track & manager timely and efficient pick-up, movement, and delivery of goods
- Develop In-depth knowledge of customers products & services; track requirements for each client
Schedule, Compensation, & Benefits Overview:
- Salaried position plus commission / Flexible Compensation Structure
- Typical Schedule is Monday Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
