Overview:
The Certified Surgical Technician plays a crucial role in the operating room supporting surgeons nurses and other surgical personnel before during and after surgical procedures. They are responsible for preparing the operating room sterilizing equipment and assisting the surgical team. Their attention to detail and knowledge of surgical procedures are essential in ensuring patient safety and successful surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures
- Sterilize and arrange surgical instruments and equipment
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies during procedures
- Ensure aseptic techniques are maintained throughout the surgical procedure
- Prepare patients for surgery including positioning and draping
- Monitor and ensure the availability of supplies and equipment in the operating room
- Assist in transferring patients to and from the operating room
- Provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies such as cardiac arrest or hemorrhage
- Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize patient care and safety
- Document and maintain records of surgical procedures
- Participate in the training and orientation of new staff
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards and protocols
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST)
- Prior experience in a surgical setting
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols
- Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods
- Capability to remain calm and focused in highpressure situations
- Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
- Current CPR certification
