Nursing Superintendent

Shall plan and distributing ward duties to the staff nurses.

Shall ensure adequate supply of equipment, medicine etc in the wards.

Shall receive nursing report from staff nurses and prepare a report for the ward/department.

Shall record orders for the treatment of the patients.

Shall maintain stock of drugs and all other articles in the ward.

Shall be responsible for the safety of dangerous drugs.

Shall record confidential report of the staff nurses.

Shall represent nursing services and maintain good liaison with all departments of the hospital.

Shall keep informed SMO (Senior Medical Officer) of any incident of importance.

Shall create and maintain a good working relationship/atmosphere in the ward.

Shall act as a role model.

Shall report to the authorities concerned about emergencies, if any.

Shall maintain correct statistics, eg. discharge, admission etc.

Shall supervise the general cleanliness, sanitation etc.

Shall delegate duties to the staff nurses.

Shall ensure discipline and practice of ethics among the nurses in the hospital.

Shall ensure orientation of new nurses and inservice training for all categories of staff.

Shall develop specialized care, arranging special training for the nurses.

Shall provide leadership to the nurses and encourages membership to professional organizations.

Shall participate in teaching programmes of the students.

Shall report to the Manager HR regarding any disciplinary actions to be initiated.

Shall hold meetings with the staff nurses to discuss problems.

Shall counsel the staff nurses as and when required.

Shall be aware of the conditions of the patients and the need for nursing care.

Shall ensure good nursing care, delegating duties to the staff.

Shall take ward rounds periodically and at irregular intervals so as to have a surprise element in the visits.

Shall supervise the Housekeeping staff.

Shall keep the SMO/Duty Doctor informed about any change in routine activities.

Shall establish adequate liaison with patients and ensure correct information to them and their relatives.

Shall be available to the staff at the time of emergencies/accidents.

Shall assigns work to the students and supervise them.

Shall be responsible for the orientation of new staff.

Any other job assigned by Duty Medical Officer/Senior Medical Officer/Consultants/Directors.
