This is a fulltime position located in Augusta. This opportunity allows partial telework with management approval.

The Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Program (CDPCP) is looking for a Chronic Disease Evaluator to coordinate public health surveillance and evaluation of chronic diseases as well as modifiable risk factors to chronic diseases. This position helps drive public health actions to control and/or prevent the onset of chronic diseases in Maine. As an internal evaluator the position will oversee statewide chronic disease surveillance systems; provide technical assistance and expertise to Chronic Disease Programs on evaluative thinking including utilization of findings to inform strategies aimed at protecting the health of Maine citizens and visitors where indicated.

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the Chronic Disease team your core responsibilities will include:
Coordinate the collection analysis interpretation and dissemination of state surveillance data.
Collaborate with Chronic Disease Programs other Maine CDC Programs and program vendors at the Maine CDC
Provide professional consultation to programs healthcare partners and the public.
Coordinate with contracted epidemiological staff to monitor disease trends and emerging threats.
Collaborate with programs to implement quality improvement activities.
Provide surveillance and evaluationrelated input to public health initiatives that help reduce barriers to disease control and prevention.
Provide program representation at national regional state and local level meetings conferences trainings and workshops as it relates to evaluation and surveillance expertise Coordinate (or participate) in state sponsored chronic disease workgroups.
Assist Program Managers with grant writing.
Assist Program Managers with completion of required reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Masters Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a Bachelors Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two 2 years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a yearforyear basis.

Preferred candidates will also have:
o Excellent oral and written communication skills.
o Knowledge and experience in Public Health
o Knowledge and experience with evaluation including CDCs Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health 2024 the American Evaluation Associations (AEA) Guiding Principles for Evaluators 2018 Statement on Cultural Competence in Evaluation 2011 and the 2018 AEA Evaluator Competencies.
o The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners.
o Computer skills including Microsoft Office
o Extensive database skills including creation management and integration of diverse datasets.
o Experience with statistical software (SAS experience is preferred).
o Experience developing materials (e.g. briefs technical documents) for providers and the public..
o Collaborate across Chronic Disease Programs to coordinate and integrate shared goals strategies and evaluation activities fostering synergy and efficiency.
o The ability to contribute towards strategic discussions build consensus and help groups to reach datainformed decisions that will further the mission of the Chronic Disease Prevention Program.
