Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Driver Controls Design Group covering a wide variety of engineering disciplines and assemblies throughout the F1 car including all driver control systems and assisting with driver fit.

Collaborating with the Group Principal and Head of Suspension Steering and Brakes you will be responsible for undertaking and guiding a range of designs from initial concepts through to prototype production working collaboratively with multiple Engineering departments.

Formula one is the pinnacle of Motorsport Engineering requiring dedication and very close collaborative work within a closeknit team rewarding passionate engineers with the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic engineering challenge in an exciting and highly competitive sport.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Concept design through to detailing of mechanical hydraulic and composite components.
  • Carry out background stress and sizing calculations and produce supporting documentation.
  • Conduct and contribute to design reviews at individual through to whole engineering team level.
  • Adopt endtoend ownership for projects incorporating manufacture build testing and racing including fault analysis and resolution requiring close collaboration with the wider team.
  • Support checking of detailed drawings including design review against specification and previous designs and competitor analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement and promote autonomous creativity to unlock performance.

Our ideal candidate is someone who has:

  • An indepth understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification supported by design experience in motorsport aerospace or a related field.
  • The ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritise work to varying deadlines.
  • Strong CAD skills ideally with experience of Siemens NX however training will be provided for conversion from other CAD systems.
  • Experience with simulation modelling and basic stress calculations.
  • Data analysis and FEA experience would also be beneficial.
  • Has a passion for engineering innovation and detailed design work.
  • Confidence and is well organised making sound decisions based on good judgement and seeking input as required.

  • A friendly collaborative outlook with good communication and organization skills will help the successful candidate integrate well into our design team.
