Job Description

We are looking to recruit an adaptable Senior User Experience Design Consultant who can work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and deliver excellent results across Version 1s customers including both public and private sector clients.

You will be expected to lead design initiatives guiding teams and clients through the design process to achieve optimal outcomes. You will be experienced in working with users and stakeholders to determine the best way to design products and services considering both the endtoend journey and individual design elements. Your portfolio will demonstrate your ability to balance user needs business requirements and technical constraints in designs. You will be comfortable working with design systems and meeting relevant design standards. You will have strong consultancy skills and demonstrate your ability to communicate your design decisions effectively.

Consultancy Skills

  • You can quickly get up to speed on new projects inspiring customer confidence in your ability to understand their needs and guide them through the design process.
  • You understand and align design practices with team or organizational goals accurately identifying and framing problems to support decisionmaking and action.
  • You are experienced in managing stakeholders ensuring clear communication and effective decisionmaking.
  • You know how to escalate issues and when to seek support in unblocking your design work. You can support more junior colleagues to enable the team to make progress and deliver value for Version 1s customers.
  • You can quickly adapt to new challenges and drive continuous improvement in design practices.

Leadership Skills

  • You can lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams fostering a collaborative and innovative environment to achieve project goals.
  • You can develop and communicate a clear design vision aligning team efforts with business objectives and user needs.
  • You can lead teams through change adapting to new challenges and driving continuous improvement in design practices.
  • You can manage and mentor junior team members providing guidance support and performance feedback to ensure their professional growth and the successful delivery of projects.

Design Thinking and EvidenceBased Design

  • You have a strong understanding of design thinking and can apply frameworks and approaches as appropriate to the circumstances of a project.
  • You take an evidencebased approach to design seeking to test your assumptions to ensure that your designs are the simplest feasible approach to solving problems.

Concepts and Prototyping

  • You are experienced in creating seamless customer journeys across channels and devices.
  • You can create and iterate a variety of different prototypes selecting the appropriate level of fidelity and tools for the task. You can appropriately evaluate concepts and prototypes and explain them to stakeholders and team members.

Experience in Using Extending and Creating Design Systems

  • You have experience in using extending and creating design systems to ensure consistency and efficiency across products and services aligned to customer branding.

Experience of Accessible/Inclusive Design

  • You have a deep understanding of the key principles and standards for accessible/inclusive design and can communicate them effectively to ensure products and services comply with industry standards.
  • You are skilled in incorporating inclusive design practices into your work ensuring that your designs are usable by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
  • You can collaborate with user researchers and other stakeholders to understand the diverse needs of users and incorporate their feedback into your designs to enhance accessibility and inclusivity.

Balancing Needs Requirements and Constraints

  • You can undertake comprehensive research activities to understand the diverse needs business requirements and technical constraints that must be balanced in your design work.
  • You can clearly explain design decisions in relation to user needs business requirements and technical constraints to gain buyin from stakeholders and decisionmakers.
  • You can effectively collaborate with user researchers business analysts product managers and developers to quickly deliver usable and accessible designs that meet the needs of all stakeholders.
  • You can take a holistic approach to design ensuring that all aspects of user experience business goals and technical feasibility are considered and balanced in your solutions.

Agile Working in Multidisciplinary Teams

  • You understand user experience design practices and know how to align your work to agile workflows across all stages of the development lifecycle.
  • You can work in an open iterative and collaborative way in a multidisciplinary team.
  • You can guide multidisciplinary teams through the design process to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • You are committed to continuous improvement regularly reflecting on and refining your design practices to enhance team performance and project outcomes.
