Job Description

TASK FORCE: Citywide Government Operations Taskforce (CGOT)

UNIT: LEAF

JOB TITLE: One 1 Summer Intern

CONTROL CODE: AA Intern2501


SUMMARY:

The Mayors Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City governments chief financial agency. OMBs staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayors expense and capital budgets which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

The Law Elected Officials Administration and Finance (LEAF) Unit oversees and prepares the expense and capital budgets of 18 agencies offices boards and commissions including the Law Department the Department of Finance and the offices of New York City elected officials including the Mayors Office.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The duties of the position include the following activities:

Monitor and expedite the progress of budget modifications and other technical exercises ensuring compliance with approved funding allocations and costeffective financial planning.
Use Excel formulas and pivot tables to analyze large data sets; effectively format spreadsheets for presentation and review.
Assist with the review monitoring and evaluation of agencyheld contracts.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and fouryear financial plans for the agencies this Unit oversees to meet mandated responsibilities and programmatic requirements.
Assist in the review of agency budget submissions related to savings proposals agency operations and ongoing and new projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent research and analytical skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel including functions such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP pivot tables advanced formulas (IF/IFS/IFERROR) conditional formatting and data analysis tools for efficient data management and reporting. Interest in and knowledge about NYC government; educational or professional experience in this area is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to aggregate and synthesize information to create a clear and cohesive deliverable.
Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
Ability to learn quickly understand the perspectives of multiple stakeholders and approach challenges with creativity and objectivity.
Works well with others in a team setting.

REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel

To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June August each year.
